Because this couture is too bland. Perhaps I am being too hard on Ralph and his collection. My head was filled with visions of a line that deserved the proverbial saying, "save the best for last." His M.O. is creating sweater wearing preppy looks that have a hint of Gatsby style. Hence the polo insignia and the lack of color.
For being born in the Bronx one would think that an edgy style would be natural. Again, wrong. The man's answer to the replacement of business casual with Armani's sleek styles is perfume and home deco lines. But no one can do a cashmere cardigan like Lauren. Smart outer wear was the highlight of his show. A lot of caramel hues with black form fitting dresses were walked down the runway by hungry looking models. It was a little odd to see a rich caramel suede floor length being marched down the runway. I wasn't sure what to think. It was obviously heavy and didn't flow right, but the details were beautiful.
An abundance of gold in leather, lame, satin, and many other fabrics this week is overkill for me. Metallics are hot and very in vogue at the moment. I am hoping the trend will wan as spring makes its debut in a few months. But the fashion forecast doesn't seem to be in my favor. Then only thing that distracted me from the drab palette were berets. I thought they could have looked cute, but it seemed to be missing something.

notes says:
you're missing the point. it's akin to turning up to an armani parade, pouting and blubbering, "oh! i wasn't expecting any more suits!"
both designers have their signiture staples; tweeked every now and then to suit the trends of the day.
surely there's room for groundbreakers and classists alike?

I must be boring as hell, because I loved Ralph Lauren's collection. He's all about creating modern variations on classic pieces, which is why he's so prolific.
Agreeing with notes: As much as people love seeing innovative seasonal trends, they also love seeing stuff they could actually pull off without being Lily Donaldson.

variety is the spice of life as they say (and may the lauren sort never die out)
