Of course he does. He's friggin' brainwashed. During the promotion of his latest film, "Wild Hogs," John Travolta lamented that Anna Nicole didn't have the opportunity to utilize Scientology's drug and detox program program to help battle her addiction.

"It's so sad."
"We could have helped her with Narconon but didn't get a chance to. I wish we had."
While I do believe that his intent is genuine, I think it's kind of a tough decision for someone to face: live a life as a drug addict and risk an early demise, or get clean and live the rest of your life in a cult. Why, hello there rock and hard place. You're both looking mighty unappealing.

AA is a cult. Scientology is a religion that actually makes a whole lot more sense than Christianity.

um scientology is not a religion weird girl that commented before me, its a cult. do you know anything about it, have they sucked your brain up to the mother ship too?...=) rock on aliens!

March 1, 2007 4:05 PM

is that katie as in homeless (i'm sorry homles).

scientology was designed by a con-artist and liar. i really doubt they would have wanted a "real" problem person like anna would have been. she would not have know to be "quiet".

i do believe that john probably "has" good intentions, but at the same time just like all those other people who wanted to save britney and are now jumping on the band wagon after the fact.

March 1, 2007 4:12 PM

Wow, that pic of Anna makes her really look like a horse.

And any real religion wouldn't make you pay to learn more about it. It's a requirement in scientology, and only a very oft-mentioned suggested donation in christianity...

March 1, 2007 4:15 PM

Katie Katie Katie
Did Tom make you write that?
Bless your ignorant heart.

March 1, 2007 4:19 PM

Could Ana have fixed her GUMS?

I'm surprised she let herself smile like that a lot.

March 1, 2007 4:20 PM

I don't doubt that a con artist and a liar created Scientology. Those are the people who make up religions.

To answer "me": yes, I do and, no, they haven't. Did you think I would actually have a different answer than that?

So I'm weird because I think a religion that incorporates outer space into their beliefs has more validity than a religion where people follow Jesus Christ? Come on, people. Don't judge people who have different thoughts from you so harshly.

March 1, 2007 4:22 PM

"very oft-mentioned suggested donation in christianity..."

This statement is laughable. You can't be serious!

katie dear, i don't judge.. but i do know about scientology and you really can't say it's not a cult.. i mean COME ON! yes i do agree with you that most religions are a little "cultish" with the communial praying and things... but scientology isn't even a religion.. so therefore can't even be stated as such in your argument... it's a CULT flat out, now go and get your free personality test on the sidewalks of santa monica again...
all the best!

WHO'S JUDGING RELIGIONS HARSHLY HERE, KATIE????

thank you sarah!

March 1, 2007 4:33 PM

Sarah: Um, you are. lol "bless your ignorant heart". It looks like you're the one who needs to pick up a book and do some research, Sarah. You won't find ignorance here. Just an educated opinion that obviously isn't welcome 'round these parts.

March 1, 2007 4:46 PM

Scientology? Anna is better off dead!!!!!!!!!!!!!

March 1, 2007 5:02 PM

Katie - good grief, girl.

AA isn't a cult, first off. It's a real program using real techniques to combat a real problem. Getting your brain zapped in a hotel room (as so many ex-Scientologists have claimed) isn't any kind of anything but NUTS. You have good conviction, you're just pointing your johnny in the wrong direction. Up isn't down; the sky isn't the ocean. AA is good, wacko alien detox is bad. Ok? See the diff? The fact that AA uses Christian touchstones, is also a proof of sorts that God lives in the soul. AA is the one of the most successful treatment programs ever. If brainwashing and lightrays could stand up against it, I think we'd see all kinds of people running for the closest Sci. center. We don't. We see them lining up for the crappy coffee at the AA meets.

Secondly, Scientology may make sense to you...but that's no biggie. It makes sense to alot of people. Just because it's a lie, founded by a scammer, and makes common practice out of brainwashing/shakedowns and murder...hey, whatever. To each their own. I don't have to worry about it, because I know when my time is over, I won't be standing in front of my God wringing my hands and trying to explain Scientology. "Uh, because I like aliens? No, wait! Because Tom Cruise and Travolta SAID it was right!"

If you're referring to the tithe with your comment about the money - umm, I'm pretty sure that in my parish, those really poor folks with the same clothes on every Sunday who shuffle in for the free morning breakfasts - I'm pretty sure they aren't getting the smackdown for their cans and bottle recycling money. I'm not making fun of poor people here, I'm just trying to make a point to you: Christianity, while it has it's faults, does not discriminate against the poor. Scientology does. If ya ain't a high roller, they slam the door in yo' face....or at least, stunt your spirituality by denying you the next crazy ladder in progression to the mothership. In fact, true Christianity celebrates the poor. "Poor" is not a dirty word. "Poor" is not a crutch. Sometimes, poor is a choice. Jesus Christ, for one, loved the poor, and didn't try to make them rich or popular. He just loved them.

Believe whatever you want; but don't knock other choices in the process. Everyone here has their own opinion and belief system. If it's strong enough and true to your heart, no argument can shatter that belief. I have my own; but I don't need to post and bash Scientology right off the bat. I just look at John Travolta and wonder where the good ol' days went? Stayin' Alive was the bomb.

March 1, 2007 5:17 PM

genevieve83 and "me" have very good points about Scientology, so I'll let that go. There's no need to spend any more of my time defending something I don't follow.

What I'll go back to now is my comment about AA being a cult. I can tell you from personal experience that it's an organization that specializes in mind control, not rehabilitation. To save myself some time (and so I can get back to work, lol), I'll quote rational.org. I'm not alone in this thought. Do a simple google search for "AA" and "cult" and you'll see that.

"Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is an aggressive, religious cult posing as a friendly support agency for people who want to end their addictions to alcohol and other drugs. It is the brainchild of Frank Buchman, a maverick Lutheran clergyman who discovered the awesome potential of group methods in achieving mind-control, which he called "God-control." Rev. Buchman organized the Oxford group, which became known as "Groupism," which rose to social prominence during the 1920's and then fell into disrepute in the late 1930's when he endorsed the rising European politician, Adolph Hitler."

Katie...Scientologists believe that gay people can and should be reprogrammed by them at great expense to be heterosexuals. And you find this to be a valid religion? alrighty then

March 1, 2007 10:18 PM

I would much rather have the early demise than be in a cult. Or in Scientology. Oh wait. Same thing!
The major religions of the world (Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity) have a historical background. Although there certainly may be other worlds out there, the Scientologists sound a bit wacky.
Actually, research any religion and you will find some wackiness. Scientology just seems to have a lot more of it.
And what is up with Anna's lips? In the earlier photos of her, she did not show her gums. So awful! Bad plastic surgery or what?

No No No Katie....Defending Scientology is not "welcome 'round these parts"! I find ANYONE who defends or welcomes or endorses this "religion/cult" truly terrifying! Brainwashing is terrifying. Ignorance is terrifying. Say what you want about AA, but remember your own words.......
"Don't judge people who have different thoughts from you so harshly"
XOXO

ok i was totally going to make a very rational argument against scientology but then i realized that it would absolutely make no difference whatsoever. once you're a scientologist, your brain has already been reprogramed and there's no use in trying to argue. or use logic.

Scientology seems a lot like Christianity to me, come do what we tell you...oh yeah, and give us all your cash too...

March 2, 2007 3:14 AM

katie.

you are a complete dumb ass.

a man wrote a book on how to create your own religion and have people actually believe it.

he then created scientology.

March 2, 2007 8:40 AM

Missy - It's a pity you didn't post your rational arguments against scientology, because a couple of the comments that have been posted are incredibly stupid. I hate it when those theoretically on "my side" of the discussion make us look like morons :(

Desertboy - So do you think a religion that believes homosexuals are condemnded to the eternal fires of hell is valid? How about a belief that only homosexual acts are sinful? I don't agree with the scientologists' ideas on gays, but other religions are much worse. And for that matter, some psychological/psychiatric treatments for homosexuality (pre-1972) were absolutely horrific: castration, shock therapy, breast amputation!

Kareno - Hubbard did NOT write a book on how to create your own religion and have people actually believe it. There's a rumour that scientology was the outcome of a bet, and another that Hubbard said something like "there's no money in sci-fi, the way to earn a million dollars is to start a religion." Of course, the scientologists say they're false. (I think he did believe the tripe he was spouting. If he didn't then I'd actually have a lot more respect for him!) Anyway, please get your facts straight before you argue on my side again. Thankyou.

MOST OF YOU ARE MISSING THE POINT.

1) All organized religions are a little scary. Period. Do you even KNOW how scary radical Christianity is to someone who's Jewish?

2) It doesn't matter how it was created. Most religions most likely started in a similar way to Scientology.

3) Don't even try to act like Christians accept homosexuality. There are Christian camps to "save" homosexuals.

4) You're all getting defensive because the topic makes you uncomfortable.

5) Yes, brainwashing is terrible. Ignorance is terrifying. Have you ever seen a documentary called "Jesus Camp"?

6) Outer space is real and aliens are most likey real. What kind of ego do you have to develope before you start believing you're the only intelligent life in the infinite universe?

7) Let people believe what they want to believe.

*Anonymous* Posted on March 2, 2007 08:41 AM

Anonymous is pretty smart.
I certainly agree that most religions started that same way, with one dude making up a bunch of stuff and others saying "Wow cool, I'm on board, where can I send the cheques?"

And any religion that says homosexuality is sinful or needs reprogramming, automatically invalidates itself.

Buddhism is nice as far as I know, as they do the right thing because it IS the right thing, kindness, respect etc.
They don't do good works simply because they are under threat,
or to get something for themselves, like heaven.
They understand TRUE altruism.

Do you know how scary some Orthodox Jews are to anybody? The way they treat women is pretty darn close to the way fundamentalist Muslims do!

March 4, 2007 9:06 PM

Katie is crazy (below).
scientology is a cult. and who mentioned anything about AA??
rock & hard place- very funny!

March 5, 2007 2:47 AM

Katie, dear, you will miss your Christian religion when you meet death!! Would Scientology have saved Anna Nicole, maybe in this life, but NEVER in the next.
God Bless Anna Nicole, and God Bless Katie, may she read the bible and return to the religion that Jesus Christ started himself, and invite her husband and his friends to join her. I will continue to pray for you, and all Scientologists.

katie...oh dear...

i am sorry that you have your facts mixed up about AA~ if anything AA is the opposite of a cult. it is based loosely on spiritual principles and everyone has a God of THEIR understanding. it promotes no one religion or method of practicing. many AA's have developed their own idea of a higher power.

i know this originally started on scientology and Anna Nicole Smith. If anything would have saved Anna it would have been AA.

SAMMY

Quit acting like you know everything and that you have to correct everyone.

I am a student in Theology at Stanford University and the top professor debunked exactly what you stated. In addition, there is a Tom Cruise interview on the point I made earlier.

And I do not give a damn that I should try to be careful with what I say simply because I'm arguing on "your side".

You are the worst kind of person...Uninformed and Misinformed...but you pretend as if you are.

April 23, 2007 9:57 AM

Jesus died for our sins...

Did any unearthly beings do that for Scientology?

Poor Scientologist. :[

Don't argue with her. It's useless. Scientologists are taught defense mechanisms to deal with being confronted.

If you really want to be productive in spreading awareness about the cult, hand out pamphlets, write down website names on your dollar bills, tell your friends and family, and participate in the Ides of March protest!!
