Just kidding, the Jimmy Kimmel Show is one of our sponsors, so ha!

Gawker took a slam from Jimmy Kimmel, when one of its editors, Emily Gould, started talking about how the site's Stalker Map was a form of "citizen journalism." Kimmel was filling in for Larry King on CNN when Gould then went on to say, "Everyone who reads it knows that it isn't checked at all," and pointed out that celebrities have millions at their disposal to aid them in protecting their reputations, to which Page Six says Jimmy replied:

"You know that's a silly and stupid thing to say . . . Just because people have money means it's OK to say false things about them, to tear them down?" Looking like a deer caught in the headlights, Gould squeaked, "It's not OK to say false things about anyone." To which Kimmel retorted, "Well, you should check your Web site then. Thank you for talking to us," and then cut her off.
And that, my friends, is why I keep fact-checking elves chained in the basement that I don't actually have. That, and to make me cookies when I'm in need of a Tollhouse fix.

Hanging up on her was very childish. Obviously he was afraid to let her say her piece.
So much of his humour comes from making fun of people, on The Man Show and Crank Yankers, and yet he whines like a little baby if someone directs a snarky comment at him.
He really should have taken the thick-skinned approach, so as not to look like a douche, which he apparently is.

well, someone clearly had a chip on his shoulder. he was being about as unbiased as he claimed gawker is.

btw, really glad you posted that the jimmy kimmel show was a sponsor for your web site. especially when he was telling emily that he didn't know why people would advertise on web sites.

You know what? I actually agree with what Jimmy was saying. Alot of these blogs put up things they know are false, and hurtful, yet go ahead and post them anyhow. Celebs are people too, and I think it is just hurtful. Just because someone is famous does not mean it should be open season on them.

the thing about Gawker is that, unlike some gossip sites (perez hilton i'm looking at you) it has a veneer of being closer to "real journalism." You know, the kind that fact checks and isn't completely shocked when people sue the for libel for writing things that aren't true. the web is becoming both more (the AutoAdmit fiasco. messing with law students was a GREAT choice, guy) and less (proliferation of gossip blogs that don't even PRETEND to have sources for things) accountable. It's becoming like the real world. And in the real world, people get pissed when you lie about them. it's not, as this bozo said, a matter of putting celebrities on a pedestal. when they genuinely fuck up, tell us. but "i saw anderson cooper buying underwear at such and such"? how is that anything?
and gawker, if you're going to send someone in to play with the big dogs, send someone with gravitas and composure, not a valley girl who talks like she just graduated last week. i mean come on: it's larry f-ing king! step it up!

What is up with her bizarre facial movements? It was like watching a teenager lie to her mother and want to laugh at the bullshit she was saying...

Jimmy you're a loser. You just used that interview to clear your name. FAT DRUNK MESS!

April 10, 2007 3:41 PM

Yeah, I'm with Aj. I don't care what she was saying - she was totally obnoxious to watch. If she were a famous actress or something Gawker would totally hand her her ass on a plate for acting that strangely.

Does anyone else find it ironic that Jimmy said he doesn't understand why anyone would advertise on gossip blogs, when ads for his show are plastered all over many of the more popular ones?

What a sad commentary. Ms. Gould obviously has had no media training. Kill the twitching and eye rolling, already!

I agree with What Ryan said in one of the prior posts. Hello! If you're going to be presenting yourself to the media as the EDITOR of Gawker you should be a little bit more on your game, sweetie!

Her publicist should be reconsidered as well. Why would you let your client go out there and sound like a complete nincompoop?

The questions Kimmel asked were fair...even though he is annoying.

BOOOOO Jimmy... Go cry in your bags full of money. You want a job in entertainment, this comes with the territory, call it a perk. I see his ads slapped all over my precious Socialite's Life; bring back the chick with the martini already, she looks more interesting. Jerk.
