Snoop Dogg breaks it down for us .

Snoop frequently refers to women as "b**ches" and "hos" in his music, but he insists Imus' use of the term was unacceptable and the 66-year-old DJ should be taken off the air.

The Doggystyle star says, "It's a completely different scenario. (Rappers) are not talking about no collegiate basketball girls who have made it to the next level in education and sports. We're talking about hos that's in the 'hood that ain't doing s**t, that's trying to get a n**ga for his money. These are two separate things. First of all, we ain't no old-ass white men that sit up on MSNBC going hard on black girls. We are rappers that have these songs coming from our minds and our souls that are relevant to what we feel. I will not let them muthaf**kas say we are in the same league as him.

"Kick him off the air forever."

Respect.

That is so very asinine.

April 11, 2007 6:16 PM

It is finally good to know that rappers are the new moral compass for the masses. However, isnt Snoot Dog, the rapper that did his own "girls gone wild". I guess those spring breakers weren't college girls but neighborhood ho's. I personally find it amusing that the Bro's have to have a white ho in order to legitimize themselves to one another. Go figure.

April 11, 2007 6:25 PM

Oh, shut the hell up, Snoop. I think the only people who should be offended right now are black WOMEN. Rappers aren't allowed to weigh in on the sitch because rappers are the biggest women haters walking the face of the earth. That whole explanation is the biggest chunk of bs I've heard in forever. That's a Imus-ism, you ask me.

That said, who gives a shit what that crusty old geezer says. The best consequence of this whole deal would be to close him up in a huge arena with the players he insulted. We'd find him the next morning with a rim shoved up his ass, dangling over the zone.

Which he deserves, by the way.

April 11, 2007 6:27 PM

what kind of ass backwards thinking is that?!?!

April 11, 2007 6:52 PM

pathetic excuse for a man. always full of excuses.

i totally agree with him. shocking, i know. snoop dogg is making a distinction between women of class and women who deserve to be called names. it's nice of him to acknowledge that not all women should be called bitches and hos, but some deservedly so.

April 12, 2007 5:32 AM

Suge Knight has been on Imus' show several times. Snoop Dogg, ZERO. Why is that?

Must be a good reason for that.

Personally, I find it offensive that he would be fired. When did we become such pussies? When did people start believing that they have a right to not be offended?

Do I agree with what was said? Of course not. Does he have a right to say it? Fuck yes. You have a right to say whatever you want as long as it doesn't endanger other people (a la yelling FIRE in a movie theater and causing a stampede).

It's insulting.

April 12, 2007 8:01 AM

Hey Ani,

You are right sweetheart, this is America and he should be able to say whatever he wants to say but guess what this also the America where nappy-headed pussies like myself and their liberal white friends wield some economic power. So he can have all the free speech he wants over at his fucking ranch.

Since you love the constitution so much I will suggest you try the same act at work and see if you can take the constitution to the bank to pay your mortgage.

"I'm insulted".....the histronics!

As to snoop...the irrelevance is overwhelming.

Oh spare me, self-righteousness - You're being a hypocrite. Free speech applies to all speech, not just the kind you like or agree with. Should he be punished? That's up to his employers. Since we live in a capitalist system, I'd imagine the best way to show your anger would be with your dollar - as advertisers who pay Imus' bills should as well.

I'm pretty left-leaning (nice job on the assumption - though, I can't say I'm surprised as you obviously didn't take the time to actually think about my post), but that doesn't mean I'm blind.

You apparently believe in selective freedoms - you're far from the liberal you profess to be.

April 12, 2007 8:58 AM

Ani

I am on socialite life 1st thing in the morning numbing my brain before I set off to work. Do really believe I am "thinking" about your post?

I found it rather clear, what was there to "think" about. I assumed nothing about you nor did I profess to be a liberal. I said I was a nappy headed pussy. I guess it is axiomatic that one who wants IMUS canned is a pussy.

What I have concluded is that you are clearly schizophrenic. Isn't your first paragraph on point with my sentiments and contradictory of your 1st post?

Get it together before you go get insulted when some 97 year old rabblerouser picks on unsuspecting young women who should be basking in their acheivement.

The young(er) chick he married is probabaly more of a Ho. J. Harvey why don't you share the back story on her as I am now thoroughly bored by Ani.

Right.. I'm not the one who thinks that opinions should be regulated.

*pats your head*

Enjoy your condescension, perhaps it can fill the void left by logic. :)

Snoop is right! That's the language used on the block, Imus ain't from the block, so how would he know how to differtiate the girls that deserve respect and the one that fit the description of Hoes! How, when he sits in his lilly white tower and just says what he hears and think's its approprate. That's the trouble with those rich white kids who try to emulate rappers and no nothing about the game. Now, that's what's really the definition of pathetic!

April 12, 2007 9:52 AM

I understand what Snoop is saying, but both uses are wrong. Imus's comment was racist and sexist. Snoop and other entertainers that say the same stuff are sexist. Are there women out there that 'act' like those terms, yes...males too. But name calling in the mainstream media like that is wrong, period. Imus and all others that use that type of language should be boycotted/fired/etc.

April 12, 2007 10:40 AM

I think Imus was totally wrong. How dare he make statements like that? People, no matter what color, have no right to say that about another race. What is not realized is that when just one comment by one moron is made to that effect, we as a country, as citizens get pulled right back to the Rosa Parks days, and that is just not right!! Black people and White people together fought for our country to be 1. Comments like that can take years worth of work and struggle and flush it right down the drain. I am a white girl an I am totally offended by his remarks.

i agree with snoop the guys race does not matter and girls gone wild lives up to the title they willingly put themsleves in that postion they are mad cause theyy di dnot get paid.

April 12, 2007 12:10 PM

I just have to weigh in here. Snoop is actually more aggregious than IMUS. Yeah I said it. I am a black woman from the 'hood" and it is that ass SNOOP and his fellow trash mongers who have encouraged/legitimized every person with a damn mouth to assume that black women/girls are all hos and can be called so by any and everyone! Ask any little brown boy on the train who is screaming loudly about some ho on the playground and he will tell you that it was Snoop and his like NOT IMUS who taught him how to address black women. Yes, what IMUS said was wrong but so is SNOOP!

Futher, IMUS like SNOOP can say whatever they like but I do not have to fund it, listen to it or buy it. Just as there is freedom of speech, I also have the freedom to disagree loudly!

Dont you get it... rappers bought the rights to being assholes missogynists...
Snoop I hope they gold digg your ass for being such an asshole

This is the first time that I have ever posted on a website. That said, I am in total agreement with BunnygoneWild - this is the first intelligent response I have seen to date. Being liberal or conservative has no bearing on whether women are defined as hos. What a stupid classless word. MSNBC only took him off the air because the sponsors all pulled out - NOT because of what he said or did - it was purely the almighty dollar talking - which is why VH1, MTV and BET all have their videos and shows using that word - because it is selling - Pathetic. My niece was actually listening to this music and nodding her head to the beat and I asked her if she really listens to the words of the song - it talked about beating and raping women - because that is what they deserve. Sorry rambling - but if we accept people like Snoop and Imus and yes Jesse Jackson and Al Shartpon (also hypocrites) - then I'm afraid our younger generation is going to start accpeting this verbiage - So sad.

Bruce Gordon, former head of the NAACP and a director of CBS Corp., told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he hoped CBS would "make the smart decision" by firing Imus.

"He's crossed the line, he's violated our community," Gordon said in a telephone interview. "He needs to face the consequence of that violation."

People like Bruce Gordon are not a part of the solution. They're a part of the problem.

I have said this before, and I will doubtless say it again and again and again as these things keep coming up -- being offended is not the same thing as being hurt, or, in this case, as Mr. Gordon, former head of the NAACP and a director of CBS Corp., put it to the Associated Press, being violated.

This is egregious horseshit. Speech is not a punch in the mouth, no matter how deeply you may be offended by something someone else said. As an adult, if you are offended by something, you have a simple, sovereign remedy -- stop paying attention to it.

Imus is a fucking asshat, and there's no getting around that. But he does not have the power to control what station you set your radio or your television to. If you don't like his particular brand of dipshittiness, then you have many, many other broadcasts you can audit in his stead... or, you know, you could turn the fucking boxes all off and go talk to your kids, or something.

Further, can someone explain the following: Comments denigrating to black people? Very Serious. Comments denigrating to women? Hardly worth a mention. Last time I checked there were more than twice as many women in the US as black folk. So why ignore the misogynist component of multiply bigoted statements like these?

April 15, 2007 12:36 AM

I agree completely with Cat2000 and wonder how Ani would react if such violent and slanderous language were used in reference to herself, her mother, sister or daughter. (actually think about that for a minute). What if, hypotethically of course, I asserted that when you wet your hair, you smell like a wet dog? Free speech is limited in that it does not protect slander and does not protect language that incites hatred. I realize that Americans tend to err on the side of being rude and condescending towards "others", but in this instance Imus done far more than cross a line of common decency, and since he was referring to a specific group of women who have done nothing wrong but excel, there were consequences for his actions. The right decision was made.

As for Snoop Dog's take on this, it is irrelevant and absurd. When the Rutgers coach stated taht Imus' comments were symptomatic of a larger problem, I realized that it was the smartest thing that has been said concerning this. Nobody likes to have their license to belittle and feel superior to others taken away, so Ani, your discomfort is understandable. Personally, I am grateful to Don Imus for bringin attention to this issue.

April 15, 2007 1:36 AM

Oh yes, I forgot to say three things:

1. A wise woman once said, stop trying to put a bandaid on a gunshot wound. That means try to use your intellect and address the real issue;

2. Ani, your hurt and dismay at having your privileged position being revealed and made apparent is understandable and should be the subject of an appropriate mourning period; and

3. THANK GOD THAT I AM NOT AMERICAN!!!!! and do not subscribe to this ignorant mentality.
