Concords052107

So, I was telling you guys earlier about how you could watch an episode of the new HBO series "Flight of the Conchords" on their MySpace page. Well, now you can check it out in even higher quality on HBO's page for the show, which premieres June 17th at 10:30PM. The show (which I LURVE) is loosely based on the real-life personalities of its stars, Bret McKenzie and Bret Clement, two New Zealander folk-music comedians, who sing about the trials and tribulations of their daily lives, including their romantic pursuits, and robots. Here's how HBO puts it:

Bunking up in an apartment decorated with the finest furniture and artwork a garage sale can yield, the two break into song at a moment's notice to let us know how the often-mundane experiences of city life make them feel.
Also, the peeps behind the show would like to offer to you, our lovely readers, three prize packs containing the following:

1 Robot stress reliever
1 DVD of the first episode
1 Poster
1 Tshirt
1 Postcard

Find out how to enter, as well as more about the show, after the jump...

Simply email me at lisa@socialitelife.celebuzz.com with "CONCHORDS GIVEAWAY" written in the subject line, as well as your mailing address in the body of the email. Deadline for receipt of entries is Wednesday, May 23rd by noon (EST). Good luck and I'll be announcing the winners on Thursday morning!

Here's the info from HBO, that I received about the show, as well as Bret and Jermaine, for those of you (like me) who are in the midst of becoming completely obsessed with them.

ABOUT THE SHOW: Flight of the Conchords is a folk/pop/comedy duo composed of Bret McKenzie of The Black Seeds and Figwit fame and Jemaine Clement of The Humourbeasts. Billing themselves as "New Zealand's fourth most popular folk-parody duo", the group depends upon a combination of witty banter and acoustic guitars to work the audience.

In this new comedy series that "makes love to your ears," Flight of the Conchords is another important addition to the Sunday prime-time lineup this summer, rounding out a formidable original slate that includes Big Love, John from Cincinnati and Entourage.

The series revolves around a pair of transplanted New Zealanders, Jemaine and Bret, who are now living in NYC within a one-block "comfort zone" in the East Village. Bunking up in an apartment decorated with the finest furniture and artwork a garage sale can yield, the two break into song at a moment's notice to let us know how the often-mundane experiences of city life make them feel. Among the friends and acquaintances they cross paths with are Murray (Rhys Darby), who works at the New Zealand consulate (not a stressful job) and is their none-too-astute music manager; Mel, a female fan obsessed with the Conchords (especially Bret); and several characters portrayed by real-life members of the NYC comedy scene, including Arj Barker, Todd Barry, Eugene Mirman (who plays their landlord), Demetri Martin and Eliza Coupe.

ABOUT THE CONCHORDS:
In 1998, Jemaine Clement hooked up with fellow New Zealander Bret McKenzie in an endeavor intended as a vehicle to learn guitar. They performed briefly as Moustache and Vested Interest before choosing Flight of the Conchords, which came from a dream of Bret's about Concorde airplanes (they changed the spelling to a Beatles-esque pun name). FOTC were named Best Alternative Comedy Act at the 2005 U.S. Comedy Arts Festival, Best Newcomer at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, and nominated for the Perrier Comedy Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. They released a live album, Folk the World, and a six-part BBC Radio 2 series which won a Sony UK Comedy Award. In 2005, FOTC made inroads in the US with an HBO One-Night Stand.

APART FROM THE CONCHORDS:
Involved in a wide array of projects on stage, radio, TV and film, Clement is half of the sketch-comedy duo Humourbeasts with Taika Cohen, the Oscar® nominee with whom he recently teamed for Eagle vs. Shark, a film scheduled for release in June. Tongan Ninja, which he co-wrote, features Jemaine as Action Fighter, the aptly-named nemesis of the title character. McKenzie has been performing in film, music, theater and TV since the 1990s. Like most New Zealanders, he appeared in the Lord of the Rings trilogy; he also was a member of #1-selling New Zealand band The Black Seeds that produced three gold albums and toured in Europe and the South Pacific.
