The movie version of "Nine," a musical based on the Federico Fellini film "8 1/2," is being fiercely pursued by both Katie Holmes and Demi Moore, both of whom have already auditioned for roles in the film, according to a piece in the New York Post.

"The wife of Tom Cruise and mother of little Suri did a singing and dancing audition in Marshall's office on Tuesday, as did Moore. Also being talked about are Marshall's Chicago stars, Renée Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones," states the article.
The project is set to be directed by the Tony and Oscar-nominated Rob Marshall and is being backed by producer Harvey Weinstein. I don't know if Katie and Demi have any musical experience under their belt, and quite frankly, I'm too lazy to look it up online at the moment. All of my knowledge of dance was acquired during a very short stint of ballet and tap that lasted all of six months when I was about five years old. If I had to walk into an audition like that, there would be a lot of me demonstrating what a seed looks like after it's been planted and then blooms into a flower. Sometimes, I try that move out in the club.

I remember an old Dawson's Creek episode where Joey sings in some sort of pageant. I don't remember her being very good though......
Maybe she also got drunk in a college episode and sang at a bar - but that may have been someone else (or me).

So... it's a film based on a musical based on a film?? That's completely ridiculous.

Ummmm...okay...besides marry a nutjob to promote herself, what has Katie Holmes done that resembles credibility enough to be considered with Demi Moore, Renee Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones?! Am I missing something here?! Demi had a pretty decent run with G.I. Jane and A Few Good Men, Zellweger's got a freaking Oscar and Zeta-Jones dominated "Chicago." Katie Holmes...uh..."First Daughter." There... Yeah... That's really comparable...

I saw Katie sing for Rosie's show awhile back and she's very good. On E's Revealed they showed her roleplaying Damn Yankees as Lola in Notre Dame so the girl has dancing and singing chops.

Why so hard on Katie? She's a young promising actress and very beautiful. Renee,Zeta Jones and Demi struggled to get where they are along with many actresses and actors.
They all had humble beginnings before landing their stardom and awards. Its the same for Katie
who is even getting discovered at such a young age.
Not all stars get Oscars on their first jobs.
Heck so many even get robbed with the Oscars and some that win dont even deserve it.

It's true that Katie is young... But there are other young starlets who trounce her with their talent... Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Christina Ricci... Katie really hasn't paid her dues. And her appeal really isn't strong enough for audiences to buy into whatever vehicle she's moving.

i hope she doesn't get the role cos she's just going to ruin awhat could be a good film & i totally agree with you stinky she hasn't done anything credible explains her desperation to be married to scieno, she should stick to playing dress up and trying to llok serious also is it just me but when was the last time anyone saw kh&tc without their glasses on,hiding behind the glasses to cover their unhappiness. DITTO.

Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Christina Ricci?
I've never seen any of those girls sing or dance.
Katie Holmes can do both.

July 3, 2007 1:52 PM

Right on, Silly... By the way, Shazza, Katie's performances on Dawson's Creek make Britney Spears sound like Jennifer Holiday. Seriously, she sounds like she's sucked helium. And Natalie Portman has actually been on Broadway, ScarJo actually has a record deal and Christina Ricci has indie cred. Sorry... Birthing Crazy Tom's kid doesn't mean you're star material.

stinky, I totally agree, those singing episodes on dawsons were cringe worthy. I saw a clip of the episode where she's on stage I guess doing karayoke (?) and she was supposed to be all rockin' out and cool and crazy dancing around and singing, and they only showed her feet, it was sad
