In reaction to Al Gore III's guilty plea on Monday, a judge informed the former vice president's son that the completion of a drug diversion program would be sufficient reason to allow the plea to be dropped, as well as have his drug possession charges removed. In case you're not familiar with this case, young Mr. Gore was pulled over for going 100 mph in his Toyota Prius over the July 4th holiday weekend, and subsequently charged with possession of various drugs found in his vehicle. Senior deputy district attorney, Jaime Coulter, indicated that Al Gore III's compliance with the judge's recommendation that he attend a diversion program could mean that Gore's sentencing would by continued until Feb. 7th.
"At that point, he will be able to withdraw his guilty plea as if he never entered it," Coulter said.Gore has been at a live-in treatment center since his arrest, said Allan Stokke, his attorney.
"He's actually doing more than what other people do as far as treatment goes," Stokke said. "He's got great family support."
All these crazy kids and their crazy problems. I'm still shocked that his car was able to go as fast as it did. I would think that at a certain point, the windshield wipers and side mirrors simply would have just fallen off.

"More than what other people do as far as treatment goes"? I would hope so, since this is far from Al III's first brush with the law. I think the overall track record called for more here than a slap on the wrist.

Diversion programs are no walk in the park for their participants. Offenders are under a microscope 24/7 and are constantly attending drug/alcohol education and counseling sessions as well as random drops. So, I don't think he is getting off scot-free, he'll definitely have to work for it.
...and Lisa, I can't believe he got that wind-up car to go that fast either!
