Disney would be stupid to not throw money at the core cast. These kids go out on tour, sell lots of records, and HSM2 debuted to the highest numbers in cable history. Imagine if the 17 million people that tuned in for the premiere paid 10 bucks to see part 3 in the theater?

If they don't pay up and go ahead without Efron and Hudgens, they are guaranteed a huge flop.

I love Zac and the whole HSM gang! My 7 year old and I were part of the bazillion people who watched HSM2 on Friday. I hope Disney pays them what they want. It won't be the same without Zac and Vanessa. Zac was great in Hairspray and I heard he will star in a remake of Footloose.

I think its kind of necessary to have Zac Efron in the movie. The two that have already aired revolve around him.

I've never seen HSM, so I've been surprised by all of the resultant frenzy, but I am OBSESSED with getting definite confirmation one way or the other as to this kid's hetero status and the validity of his "relationship" with his co-star.

Seriously, you know how some scientists have worked all their lives to determine a grand unified field theory of physics? In those terms, Zac Efron (and Keanu Reeves) are my indefinite variables. AAUUGGHH, it's driving me crazy!

Vanessa Hudgens is ridiculous. Say what we will about Zac Efron, he's currently the prince of Disney. He's got them in his pocket, because the entire franchise is dependent on his ability to make twelve year olds stick his picture in their lockers. But Vanessa? Please. She has no talent to speak of. She can barely giggle convincingly. The second movie proved that she's easily dispensible, and riding on your boyfriend's coat tails isn't exactly the way you want to make a name for yourself when you're barely legal.

OK seriously, all this info/BS is coming from a tabloid/ all the weekly magazines...none of this is true, trust me. I work with Disney and this is not true. Everyone is still in talks about doing HSM 3. Oh yes and just to clarify: These movies have made more money in the past 3 years for disney then anything else, if people involved in the film, were to get a so called 'pay-hike' it would be well deserved. They made HSM what it is today and they will get rewarded for making it a huge success around the world- just like everyone else in hollywood.

Whether you're a fan of the HSM series or not, it definately has a major following, and the numbers for HSM2 were unreal, considering a large percentage of the viewing audience don't get the Disney Channel. The main stars, Zac & Vanessa deserve the bucks for there importance to the franchise regardless. BTW, they are both 18. Ashley Tisdale, whose over the top performance of Sharpay really "stole the show" according to most of my sources.

Ashley Tisdale and Zac were definitely the stars of the movie. Zac's a great actor and deserves the recognition he's getting. As for Vanessa.. I winced every time I watched her in HSM2. She was giggling or laughing 70% of the time, proved no talent to me. Where's Ashley in all this coverage?!

Zac Efron is like a little statue that you put up in the corner of your room to stare at because he's so pretty. I can't fault him for that. In all honesty, I'd have him up in my room in a New York minute (and I'm 30).
Vanessa Hudgins is a pretty girl and they suit one another ... make-up and all.
Thing is, if they don't have the main characters in it, who's going to go see it?
