30 Rock leads the pack for this year’s Emmy nominations with a staggering 22 to its credit. However, Family Guy managed to find itself in the unique situation of being the first animated series since The Flinstones in 1961 to be nominated for outstanding comedy series.
The category also includes Entourage, Flight of the Conchords, Weeds, The Office and How I Met Your Mother. As for outstanding dramatic series, Breaking Bad, Dexter, House, Mad Men, Lost and Damages were all recognized with nominations. In fact, Mad Men snagged an impressive 16 nods, the most of any drama this year.
In addition, a new category has been added into the mix with the comedy, musical and variety series genre including The Colbert Report, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Late Show with David Letterman, Real Time with Bill Maher and Saturday Night Live.
Grey Gardens, the HBO film starring Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange, earned 17 nominations with the Winston Churchill WWII flick Into the Storm picked up 14.
And Neil Patrick Harris will be playing host for the evening’s festivities, which kick off Sunday, September 20 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on CBS. Click on the “continue reading” link for a full list of nominees.
