Tom (Gordon-Levitt), a greeting-card writer, falls head over heels for office mate Summer (Deschanel).

There’s no taking for granted that this or that will happen. The truth in (500) Days can be painful, but the resulting comedy is more resonant.

Deschanel simply embodies that girl who hit the center of the target without trying. It’s a rare performance.
