Vogue named Rihanna as one of the Best Dressed Newcomers of the decade in the January 2010 issue, and she definitely deserves it! Rihanna is fearless with her fashion and can make bold statements with ease that few can pull off.
At the Grammys, Rihanna used a defined eye and classic diamonds (ahem, bling?) to pair with the beautiful silhouette of her Elie Saab couture gown. So simple but eye-catching – I love the interpretation of the strong shoulder trend, and the elegance in the hand-crafted ruffling.
Later in the week, at the Pepsi Fan Jam in Miami, Rihanna reminds us that attention to detail is the key to fun, unique style. During rehearsal, she plays up an otherwise simple jeans-and-tee combo with completely amazing lightning bolt heels (by Mai Lamore – there are much more to check out at her website; they come in red and bootie style too!) Alexander Wang minimalism gets the Rihanna treatment when she pairs his leather-shouldered sweatshirt dress with Christian Louboutin animal-print heels during an interview at the same event. On the negative side, she seems to be buying into the terrible giant hoop earring trend – sorry people, but these will never not look trashy!
For the Pepsi Jam performance, Rihanna confirms her status as Best Wearer of Jumpsuits 2010. I’m not totally sold on this costume – slightly on the tacky side – but Rihanna rocks it with confidence that makes it work.
The Bottom Line: Rihanna owns the Grammy’s in couture, stays fly mix-and-matching in Miami.
Look like Rihanna: Wear funky shoes to liven up basics, add drama with bold eyeliner, stay far away from gigantic hoops.
