Dear Lady Gaga,
This is a letter to let you know that you are awesome. Sure your performance at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards might have been a little bit crazy, and sure your fashion choices of late have been on the weird side, but despite all of that, you are a truly good person.
I always knew this about you, but the sentiment was reinforced last night after One Direction won Best Song of the Summer for “Best Song Ever” and the crowd booed them.
As soon as you heard the crowd booing, your face looked shocked, as if you couldn’t believe that people would be so upset that these boys won. It was kind of an amazing moment. But you didn’t stop there, Miss Gaga.
We’ve gotten a lot of really awesome things from backstage camera feeds, but you talking to One Direction is definitely high up their. The video of the pep talk is below, but here’s the recap for you.
“I don’t know what I heard out there, but if I did hear what I heard out there, I just want to tell you that you deserve every bit of success that you have. And don’t you dare let those people boo you. And I put that booing in my own show because I wanted to make a comment about that, and it’s so fu — I want to leave right now, I don’t want to stay anymore. Because I don’t want to be in a room where people will boo like that.”
Louis really tried to play it off with an, “Ah well, fuck it, fuck it.” But you wouldn’t let up reminding them, “You deserve it. You deserve a lot. You deserve a lot.”
Gaga, you are awesome. The way you support other artists has always been amazing. And sure One Direction might have their nay-sayers, but you are not one of them–you respect them for winning.
Thank you, Lady Gaga, for reminding us that people can actually be nice. It’s a rare treat.
P.S. Louis saying that he underdressed to take a photo with you had me on the floor laughing.
