Dear Pope Francis,
I’m really happy we’re finally having this talk, I truly am. Honestly it’s about time the highest ranking member of the Catholic church had something positive to say about gays.
But, and I’m being totally honest here, I never thought that Pope would be you. I was thinking maybe like 40 years down the line we’d have a serious discussion with another Pope who had more of a track record for liking gays, but one now with you is awesome.
I mean, it’s not often that when asked about gay members of the clergy a Pope responds, “A gay person who is seeking God, who is of good will — well, who am I to judge him?” That’s true, you can’t judge! That’s the beauty of it all, that’s you’re finally understanding that.
Sure you were just talking about gay clergymen as part of the “gay lobby,” but it’s still exciting. Especially when you followed all that up with, “They shouldn’t be marginalized. The tendency [to homosexuality] is not the problem … they’re our brothers.” Now, maybe it’s because I’m Jewish, but I’ve never heard gays talked about this way in Catholicism.
I understand that you’re not about to run out and start marrying gays, but maybe that’s not too far off. I mean, we can always hope, right Francis?
In any case, thanks for having some positive things to say. Until next time!
