In a very emotional interview, Anderson Cooper spoke to his mother socialite Gloria Vanderbilt about his brother Carter’s suicide on his daytime talk show Anderson on Monday (September 19). Cooper listened intently as his mother recounted the details of his brother’s death and how she begged him to come down from the balcony of their home before he jumped to his death. The 87-year-old former fashion designer then stated,
“There was a moment when I thought I was going to jump after him, but then I thought of you [Anderson] and it stopped me from doing that.”
That must have been the hardest thing for a mother to see, and it’s clear that this tragedy still affects both Gloria and Anderson.

It’s so hard to watch the Silver Fox become all choked up, especially when we’re used to seeing him so chipper and giggly during his shows. However, it’s also very comforting to see that mother and son can support each other talk about the horrific experience together. After this emotional segment, comedian and close friend Kathy Griffin joined the pair and lightened up the mood a bit. *Hugs*

I was watching your show on Hallowen!! To my surprise on your show I saw the picture of you and your brothe Carter! When I saw the picture I was stunned it looked like my two boys!at about the same age!! My sons are Robert and Dustin! My son Robert or Robbie from suicide in 2009 he was 24 years old! He also seemed to be in some kind of an episode At The time of His Death! !Now Dustin is left behind with this traggedy just like you were! Dustin is so must like you as was your brother Carter To Rob! you all looked alike! I can prove this! I would love you to talk to my son to show him there is survival after suicide !
I did not realize you had a brother ! When I saw the picture of the two of you I did not know he was dead ! When i saw the picture s on your website of Carter and you! Inyour twenty’s! you both reminded me of my boys only a couple of years ago ! This is so amazing I could hardly believe what I saw and what I learned after seeing all this!
