Anderson Cooper On The Pitfalls Of Fame

June 24th, 2006 // Leave a Comment

In a recent interview promoting his memoir, “Dispatches from the Edge,” Anderson Cooper spoke of a recent incident with an overly zealous fan that perplexed him.

According to an article in the New York Post, Anderson said:

“I was at a book signing in New York and a clearly deranged woman approached, and she had a book, and she said, ‘I can’t afford this book but please read the note,’” Cooper recounted. “Clearly, she was a schizophrenic. Anyway, she left, the book signing was done, and as I go into my car – I have a security guy and he puts me in my car – she’s sitting in my car. And they close the door, and I’m like, ‘Oh!’”

And here’s the deal folks. Unless you’re a celebrity reading this, or a party-hopping socialite like myself, you’re not going to understand what this kind of violation of your privacy really feels like. I have to say that, unfortunately, I can totally relate to Anderson’s dilemma.

One time, I came home and there was this guy in my bed. It was Saturday morning and I had been out for an early-morning run and I came home only to realize that this dude was watching early morning cartoons, just waiting for me to get home so he could have sex with me.

Granted, that time, it was my boyfriend. But still. It makes you think.

Is all this fame worth the price?
