Anderson Copper has been spending some time at a New Orleans dive bar as of late. Thanks to our reader Kerry for sending this in.
The Coop was slumming it last night at Vaughan’s, a genuine New Orleans neighborhood dive bar, right in the middle of one of the most dangerous/bohemian chic parts of the city, the Bywater. America¹s debauched Baghdad – the National Guard rattle around while we play the blues. And Bush might visit Baghdad more often but the ever-diligent Coop is down here every two weeks reporting as we chip away at the Katrina Patina.
Coop taped his show live from Vaughan¹s a couple of months ago, interviewing musicians, surviving locals and roller derby girls. Caught in the blur that any good New Orleans night becomes, Coop cut the roller derby girls interview shorter than their skirts. Monday he spent time apologizing to a long-legged innkeeper, who like the other roller derby hotties, is more used to men who want to see her moves. Vaughan¹s might be charming enough to become Coop¹s new underground favorite but, face it bar-lovers, it was the squad of cookie-cutter handsome men he bought along with him that kept that trademark twinkle in his eye.

I was surprised to read in Vanity Fair that his mother is Gloria Vanderbelt. I know….no one really cares but I thought it was interesting.

I met Anderson Cooper last Saturday night at King Bolden’s (a bar) in New Orleans. He was with a couple of guys and was very nice to us (he introduced himself twice to my husband). King Bolden’s is on Rampart Street on a sort of scary side of the French Quarter. Like Vaughn’s, it’s a place for locals. It’s good to know Anderson keeps it real.
