“A Mighty Heart” Premieres Today

June 22nd, 2007 // 51 Comments

“A Mighty Heart” opens in theaters across the country today, relating the story of the kidnapping and subsequent murder of Wall Street Journalist, Daniel Pearl. The film centers around Daniel’s widow, Marianne, who was pregnant with their son, when her husband simply never returned home for dinner. Played by Angelina Jolie, Marianne fought against the international bureacracy to uncover the truth about her husband’s murder.

As if this heartwrenching story weren’t compelling enough, our fascination with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, whose roles behind the camera were instrumental in bringing the project into fruition, have been just as interesting to watch behind-the-scenes. And we all know how much you crazies love these two, so go bonkers. I’m expecting at least 70 comments. Don’t let Mama down.

More photos from “A Mighty Heart,” and another preview clip, are after the jump.

Angelina Jolie has a new film out? I hadn’t heard. She’s so low key these days, you hear nothing about her. Is she still with Billy Bob?

  2. Zekers

    Good Morning Green!

    Angelina Jol…who???

Lisa I love ‘ya so I didn’t want to disappoint!!!

  3. Ugh

    LMAO @ Green cardigan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I personally will not see any movie that she’s in or associated with.

  4. anony2

We should comment on her being the latest subject of one of Ted C’s blind vices. She’s clearly the philanthropic formerly hot but suddenly skeletal subject of this week.

  5. green cardigan

Hi Zekers and Ugh, we can’t let Lisa down, so there’ll have to b e some visuals !

  6. Angietothemax

I’m so going to see this tonight. Since we haven’t seen or heard from her in so long. Haha!

  7. Zekers

    Angietothemax,

I hope you enjoy the movie! You’re a good egg, you stick up for Angelina but you have perspective and a sense of humor! :)

  8. lola

I want to see the movie but I couldnt even finish the book because it made me so sad. I kept up with every second of the coverage when this was happening. Its like the Lacey Petterson case were you get emotionally involved with a case having to do with people you dont even know. I hope the film does well. I will have to wait until its on DVD so I can watch it at home with my tissue box.

  9. green cardigan

I think it’s supposed to be her comeback film. I read that was about 5 reporters, a few schoolchildren and half a dozen old age pensioners at the premiere. I think they turned up because, there was a promise of free fizzy drinks during the movie.

  10. Angietothemax

Thanx Zekers. I have to keep up I have seen all her movies except Pushing Tin, I might rent that this weekend. I really am interested in this story and Marianne. I just enjoy seeing strong women do great things.

  11. Zekers

I love “fizzy drinks” but they’d have to give me more to see this movie. I know, how about a year of Brad and Angie staying put in ONE home with all their children together and out of the media? That would get me to see the movie…well, maybe two years…yeah two years of no Angelina and Brad.

  12. Kate

I loved Pushing Tin purely for Angie. She is so fucking batshit crazy in that movie.

  13. T-bone

She’s nuts. I’m not going to any of her films. Maybe they’ll make a play out of it and then I’ll go see that.

  14. Zekers

    Hey T-bone-

I didn’t see your post yesterday, until this morning. Yeah, it seems a lot better and it does look to be one person. Good work Sherlock!

  15. T-bone

Yeah Zekers, I love a good debate. And I think it’s great when people disagree. But Fake T-Bone and his/her other 10 user names was just a little too frightening and stalkerish. I’m sure he/she will be back with a different e-mail address at some point, but either it’s on summer vacation or the editors gave it the boot;) I noticed that they deleted posts.

  16. ZZZZZ

I am tired of her and anything and everything to do with her makes me turn the channel
That accent gets on my nerves SHE gets on my nerves!

  17. aspenleaf

You couldn’t pay me to see a movie Angelina is in or associated with.

  18. T-bone

In fairness, I really don’t want to see anything Brad Pitt is in either. I refuse to support their antics.

  19. green cardigan

Hi T Bone, at least Ocean’s 57 will be easier to take. A lot of other good actors like Clooney , Ellen Barkin, Matt Damon, so the focus isn’t totally on Bead Pitt doing his usual lip licking.
Personally, I’d prefer to read Marianne Pearl’s book than see the film. I just think with a story like that, a lot would be lost in a movie.

  20. I join the AJ and BP boycott. I’d also throw in with Jennifer Anistion as another actress/actor that I have absolutely no desire to see in any movie on screen or released on DVD. Also on my list is Demi Moore and her ridiculous husband Ashton.

  21. LeslieD

I am joining the boycott. I wasn’t going to see anyway but joining a boycott makes me feel better about it :) Brad Pitt is a horrible producer–they should both stick to being great POSERS

  22. Zekers

Maybe if we all put on our red slippers, close our eyes and click our heels together…they will just disappear!

Green, I think you could give J. Harvey a run for his money in the humor dept. You crack me up!!!

  23. T-bone

Mr T., I’m with you on AJ and BP, and I don’t think Demi has done anything good since….um….um….sh*t! Help me out here!

But I can’t promise to boycott Jennifer Aniston. While I agree that she hasn’t proven to have much range, I like her and I’m hopeful that some movie part will come along and force her to dig deeply into her well of experiences and shock us all. If that doesn’t happen, and she just sticks to light comedy, I’m ok with that too.

  24. green cardigan

wow thanks, Zekers, that’s a compliment!

  25. green cardigan

Demi hasn’t done anything good since she went to bed with a ghost

  26. a

I saw this movie on monday and thought it was great. Marianne Pearl is an amazingly strong woman and aj really disappeared into the role. Very sad but very hopeful as well

  27. T-bone

AH YES, Green! Ghost! But was she “good” in that or just cute?

  28. lookwhaticando

I’m going to see it this weekend, I’m sure it won’t be a big blockbuster, but I will see it anyway, and also purchase the DVD when it comes out, which sadly might be soon.

  29. Zekers

T-bone, Whoopi was good in Ghost, Demi was cute.

  30. green cardigan

And how could we forget Patrick Swizzle ? He was the best. When he takes off, back up to heaven. Oh, I shed a tear or two. Demi was good at snivelling in that movie. It always amazes me how actors can turn on the tears at the drop of a hat. The best sniveller in my opinion is Nicole Kidman. Very convincing. She did some serious bawling in The Others. Julia Roberts too does a good job with the runny nose bit..

  31. d

T-Bone Demi was half-assed in The Seventh Sign..of course she was just starting out and so she actually had to WORK then. But yeah since then, nada. Tried and tried to get through Striptease but no way OMG

  32. stopper

i have been boycotting aj and bp since they got together (no babel, oceans, a mighty heart, nothing)… nice to know others are as well! i think we should make t-shirts to make it offical, lol.

  33. Angietothemax

I found it interesting that Angie and Brad’s hookup was likened to Elizabeth Taylor’s hookup to Eddie Fisher who was married with a child to Betty Reynolds. That was a shocker. Kathryn Hepburn and Spencer Tracy who was married. J. Lo and Mark Anthony who was married with children and married J. Lo like 3 days after his divorce was final. Ben Affleck and J. Lo. Julia Roberts and Dannie Moder who was married. The double betrayal of Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith who were both married, poor Don Johnson. And how can we forget Britney and K Fed, poor Shar Jackson. Hey sh!t happens.

  34. T-bone

Now Angie — just because sh*t happens, doesn’t mean we should become numb to it or condone it.

Oh, and just FYI — it was Debbie Reynolds and I think about as much of Elizabeth Taylor as I do Angelina Jolie.

  35. Zekers

…on a positive note, how about Paul Newman/Joanne Woodward, Goldie/Kurt…They made it work, kept their families out of the media and Newman and Woodward do tons of good work for people in need.

  36. T-bone

A Rarity in a place as superficial as Hollywood, Zekers. It’s a throw away society, where the grass is always greener…. The problem is that while the grass might seem greener on the other side of the fence, chances are that it’s wet (made that up myself;) he he

  37. green cardigan

    wet AND with cowpats

  38. Zekers

Yep, realize they are gems but I also think that Angie and Bradie could learn something from their example…wait…never mind, yes T-bone I know better! I’m just in a good place today, feelin’ positive! :)

  39. Zekers

I like the term “road apples” better Green!

  40. Angietothemax

I don’t condone nor judge I don’t think one can dissect someone else’s relationship. Zeker’s the media is definitely different today than from Paul Newman’s time. There was a respectful line that existed back then now the line no longer exists. The demand is totally different as well and it’s way too easy to get information now. It’s definitely a sign of the times we live in. You can’t blame a celebrity for celebrity somebody had to make that person famous.

  41. T-bone

Angietothe…Can I ask you something (and I’m honestly not trying to be argumentative), but have you ever judged someone and/or questioned what they’re doing and why? If not, that puts you on the path to sainthood. I wish I was that good.

  42. Angietothemax

I haven’t judged. I don’t know them personally and I don’t know a lot of the story. So i can’t really say did this or that without know all the FACTS. Now of course if personally it was my friend I would have a stronger opinion.

  43. Demi was cute in Ghost but the movie sucked so bad that even Whoopi looked good in it.

  44. Angietothemax

Also, I have to mention Johnny and June Cash people rooted for their love in the movie Walk the Line which is based on their love story. That is a very difficult situation people like to put make it black and white but it’s definitely not that easy.

  45. Zekers

Okay Angieto…I’ll give you that times are different but, I can’t imagine that Newman/Woodward would have done anything to garner the attention that Ms. Jolie and the Pittster have. Angelina asks for that attention and gets perturbed when she can’t turn it off-it’s a case of be careful what you ask for. The Newmans are far more humble people and were always very protective of their children and their relationship. Kurt and Goldie have managed to stay out of the limelight and stay together, raise a family and have successful careers in today’s media fishbowl.

  46. green cardigan

I love Walk the Line. Johnny C was the man.

I agree with Angie– it’s very hard to judge someone’s relationship from what’s put out by the media. Basically whoever is writing or taking photos can put whatever slant they want on the story.

I agree that movie stars from other eras like Paul Newman, Cary Grant etc definitely had it easier when it came to protecting their private lives . There wasn’t the intense minute by minute media focus on them, like these days. Imagine the treatment Rock Hudson or Grace Kelly would get if they lived today.
Imagine the paps trying to get the knickers shot. All the allure and mystery is gone these days.

  47. T-bone

They definitely had it easier back then; HOWEVER, all of the human beings who have chosen acting and/or celebrity as a way of making a living (in the last 20 years) know exactly what they’re getting into.

  48. MM

    Zekers

    Agree

  49. Zekers

Yes, and some navigate much better than others. I still think it has a lot to do with how they handle the media initially. I mean there are plenty of very famous people who manage to keep a pretty low profile.

Well Lisa, I’ve done my part to reach the 70 posts you wanted! I’m off to Lake Michigan-have a good one all!

  50. T-bone

OH NO ZEKERS! Don’t tell the Brangeloonies where you’re going to be! They’ll hunt you down ;)

    Have a good one.
