And it’s all about the orphans. Angelina Jolie appeared yesterday at a press conference for the launch of Global Action for Children, a group that raises money for orphans in developing countries.
“I am here to simply ask you to think about orphaned children not as a burden but as a great opportunity,” Jolie said at the event. “Their education is an investment in our future. … They have had to work very, very hard to survive, but when they are given a chance, they grow strong, stronger than most. … The Lost Boys of Sudan are a great example.”
Global Action for Children aims to increase U.S. funding for orphans in developing countries by $2.5 billion per year.
More photos of Angelina Jolie from the press conference after the jump.

Aren’t the Lost Boys of Sudan vampires?
Miss T | April 27, 2007 at 10:02 am
She cares too much about the orphans of other countries when she should be thinking of the orphaned kids in AMERICA … why not help them?
Why do the kids in other countries comes first? I’m not saying that adopting outside of America is bad .. I’m just saying that if your going to go fight for orphaned kids and be very public about it, I would think the ones in your own country would come first and foremost. I dont agree with what she’s doing, and I think she’s just in it for publicity … trying to look like a saint when she’s not.
lookwhaticando | April 27, 2007 at 10:11 am
Keep up the good Fight Angelina. You have a lot of people and organizations behind you.
Angietothemax | April 27, 2007 at 10:13 am
Miss T you’re an idiot.
eseu | April 27, 2007 at 10:16 am
Miss T, Goodwill is Goodwill. Angie is trying to bring into focus the problems of orphans and she has chosen to highlight that of Sudan in this case, what is wrong with that. You most probably is ignorant about the situation of orphans in developing countries.
Do not worry, others are equally speaking for orphans in your country (USA). Please encourage Angie to do what she is doing.
lookwhaticando | April 27, 2007 at 10:17 am
Funny, Because I am sure Angelina Jolie, would be the LAST person to refer to herself as a saint. Just not her style what so ever.
Sue | April 27, 2007 at 10:44 am
Angelina is right about one thing: the Lost Boys of Sudan are some pretty amazing examples of strength through adversity. It is amazing to me to see children who have suffered unspeakable horrors in their young lives, land on their feet no matter what is thrown at them. We can all learn from that, no matter who is bringing it to our attention…
Mia | April 27, 2007 at 10:48 am
Hmmm..
Didn’t she just bring an “orphan” home not even a month ago? Oh yea, where she said she was going to stay home and adjust him to his new life? That her kids were the most important to her at the moment?
Since then, this chick has taken off to Chicago, now Washington D.C., they are going to uproot this whole brood to travel to Prague, then France (Cannes), then L.A., then New York…..for movie promotions…where those kids will end up staying with Care-givers while they play “movie stars”.
Yea…way to go Ange…..what a wonderful way to adjust an orphan to his new family, his new lifestyle, by uprooting him from place to place, airport through airport, hotel to hotel, not even a month after he was adopted.
The woman is seriously WHACKED.
I think she should be more concerned about on HER own “orphans” that she plucked from 3rd world countries….then sitting up there on some soapbox telling OUR government, how to spend OUR hard earned TAX DOLLARS, overseas! Especially when those rich hollyweird types find ANY loophole they can, NOT to pay taxes! Hers of course, is funneling HER money through charitable foundations….thats the tax loophole she is using.
T-Bone | April 27, 2007 at 10:54 am
If you read correctly, people, Miss T is not saying that helping outside of the country is bad. She’s simply asking why she doesn’t give to this country. It’s a reasonable question to ask.
mysmichelle | April 27, 2007 at 11:04 am
uh…..you T people need to get a grip, the reason you sound so dumb is your comments show your total lack of self awareness………..EVEN the orphans in this country have it WAYYYYYYYY better than these people, people living on the street in this country are better off than these people. EVEN Oprah won’t give money to needy children in this country because she said all they want are fancy tennis shoes and Ipods, I think the fact that people want to B!TCH about everything someone is doing that is TRYING to help the world shows how ignorant Americans really are about their own priviledge.
Before you jump on me I’m an orphan, an NATIVE American and yeah buddy I pay taxes too. I’d like to think some of the money might do some good somewhere.
T-Bone | April 27, 2007 at 11:15 am
Here’s my question for you, mysmichelle: if you are a Native American orphan from the USA, then you must know how important it is to get help in this country as well. You must have struggled very hard IN THIS country, correct? In other words, there are indeed struggling people (like yourself) IN THIS country as well, correct? I think that was Miss T’s point.
jesse d | April 27, 2007 at 11:27 am
Ok for all you “God Bless America” types, wtf are you to tell someone how they can spend their money & time?? Being poor here is NOTHING like being poor in other countries. Here, you can get fed. Other places, there isn’t any water food OR clothing. They’re wearing rags on their distended little bellies because their rape-victim 13 year old mothers are dying of AIDS in a little mud n grass hut & can’t feed them. If YOU’RE so concerned about American orphans, do something about it!

You can’t make a comparison between living conditions for an orphan in the US and an orphan in a 3RD World country. I think she is giving a voice to orphans and disadvantaged people who otherwise would have no voice.
I know she’s accused of being an attention seeker but if it brings help and aid to people who otherwise have nothing, how bad is that?
Angietothemax | April 27, 2007 at 11:42 am
If you wnat social reform contact your congressman and ask why isn’t more money going to programs for children. Angie and Brad have given their time and money for Katrina. However, it is Angie’s JOB as UN Ambassador to raise awareness to those who are not visible to the public eye. If anything her actions should inspire you to take a look at what YOU can do for others.
MJK | April 27, 2007 at 11:43 am
This bitch needs to stay home a couple days and take care of her own f’cking kids.
LookYourAnAss…still a moron.
givemeabreak | April 27, 2007 at 11:45 am
Miss T what are you doing for anyone? I of course expected to see a post from T-bone, spewing her hate and warped views of Angelina. Someone who is walking the walk not just talking the talk. T-bone, I see you didn’t contact that therapist.
[Fug Face man!ston] | April 27, 2007 at 11:45 am
I say you take care of home before anywhere else. There tons of kids in the states that needs helps.
But doing something somewhere is better than doing NOTHING!
jannre | April 27, 2007 at 11:52 am
I also believe charity begins at home. Her collection of 3rd world orphans will continue, and more nannies will have jobs thanks to AJ. This is just another reason for her to leave home, and leave the raising of her kids to someone else..She smiles a lot more when shes not with Brad and the brood! Poor Shiloh..
NASTY! | April 27, 2007 at 11:53 am
3rd world orphans look healthier than the thing in these pics.
Goddamn! She went from stunning to skeletal in two years.
Cadaverous face, veiny-bony arms, man hands, toothpick legs…NASTY!
T-Bone | April 27, 2007 at 11:54 am
No one is arguing that giving to other countries isn’t a good thing — stay on track here. You all jumped down Miss T’s throat when she asked why Angelina doesn’t give much to the USA, and it’s a VALID question!
Yes, we are a priviledged country, but let me tell you this — an unloved orphan is an unloved orphan! Use your heads people! Studies have shown that even monkeys can’t survive on food alone! HELP IS NEEDED IN THIS COUNTRY AS WELL AS OTHERS! Pull you heads out of your anti-American asses! I deal every day with people who have NOTHING in this country, and their mental health issues, health development, learning and everything else suffer because of it. They are in need as well!!! It’s just not as glamorous to give in this country! And that’s the bottom line!
anywho | April 27, 2007 at 11:54 am
Angelina obviously is a good hearted person. She really cares about these kids. People hate, for some reason, to give the girl credit, but I applaud her. For people who think this is all for attention, WHY would she spend millions for attention? There are other much less expensive ways to get attention than taking in orphans, having to clothe, feed ,educate them, and giving away millions of dollars. For some reason she sets some people completely off. I better stop before my head is bit off.
Anyhow... | April 27, 2007 at 11:58 am
She sets people off because she’s a coked up whore that collects kids for attention.
You don’t “get it” because you too stupid to see it.
superfluous | April 27, 2007 at 12:00 pm
I do believe she cares about her causes. What she chooses to spend her money on is her business. Instead of questionong what charities she gives her money to, why don’t people question why other celebrities and wealthy americans choose to do nothing? Angelina can’t do it alone. People are constantly praising Jennifer Aniston in comparison to Angelina, but Jennifer chooses to buy million dollar jewelry. She’s not the only selfish one, I’m just using her as an example since she and Angelina are constantly compared. I think she is great for DOING something about these children wherever they happen to live. This country has agencies and welfare to help poor people. Poor people here have an oportunity to make it. Poor people here are poor, but not destitute. She’s making a difference.
Margaret | April 27, 2007 at 12:01 pm
The United States cannot support the entire world. We give and we should give a tremendous amount of money for world aid, far more than any other country on earth. This is a UN issue. Angelina has bashed George Bush regarding orphans in Africa as far back as her Ann Curry interview at Shiloh’s birth. The United States needs to take a long look at all our foreign aid in general and realign its gifts.

Anyhow is just showing it’s ignorance. It is just showing that they refuse to see reason. Anywho, let it go. They are the ignorant ones. Angelina is wonderful. She’s not full of talk, but action. Those countries thank god for her.
Sue | April 27, 2007 at 12:09 pm
T-Bone,
It seems we share similar employment/projects. I agree with most of what you said except the glamorous comment. I’ve found that lack of awareness is largely the behind the lack of funding for poverty-stricken in the U.S. Amazing as it may seem, a large majority of Americans think that people are living on the streets or in poverty because they choose to; they are viewed as lazy or non-fixable and unfortunately this includes their children most of the time. There are a handful of programs that are trying to help, but funding is always the problem.
It is good to hear some awareness of this problem. I just hope that everyone chooses a cause, no matter where it is, and extends themselves to help.
Now, shall I pass out the Midol in hopes that the name-calling can stop in these posts? Relax people, please!!!
superfluous | April 27, 2007 at 12:10 pm
People go crazy about this woman. You have to give her credit for that. She sparks a commotion on these boards. I think the haters just want to use any thread about her as a chance to dog the woman. I don’t see what the problem is. Aren’t we all here to give an opinion? That’s all any of this is, an opinion. Which we all have. None of it is fact. I like her because she does some good. If you don’t, well, go ahead and not like her, but don’t call me names for giving MY opinion.
Me | April 27, 2007 at 12:11 pm
Miss T is right on. Why not help your own countrymen? But Africa is always trés chic every 20 years or so, but then it will die down and people will go back to their own country and figure things out.
BARF | April 27, 2007 at 12:14 pm
This is just a gossip website.
Angelina is just an actress who happens to be involved in charity work.
Let’s keep it light. All this ‘coked up whore’ and ‘these countries thank god for her’ smacks of crazy.
T-Bone | April 27, 2007 at 12:18 pm
Superfluous – read the string of posts here, if you don’t like name-calling. I believe Miss T was called everything from ignorant to idiot to dumb, when all she did was make a point and ask a valid question.

Weak people will accept just about anything as an idol, even if she is a bull-shit guru who’s biggest talent is media spin.
Muffin | April 27, 2007 at 12:27 pm
I agree with Miss T! I’m sick and tired of caring about other countries… Why can’t your hearts Bleed for our own children! When are other countries going to care about the United States or even show the U.S. some respect. You go to these places and they HATE AMERICANS! Why? We give them so much. Lets start thinking about the children of our own country and caring a little more for them AND giving THEM the education they need to grow strong. They want an I-pod, Sneakers, whatever they want… Its only because they want to be more like our own children who have everything! If the kids that Angelina so loves knew about Ipods they’d want one too! And I believe that they would rather have an Ipod too then a decent meal.
At least Idol gave back some money to the poor of the United States – there would have been a lot less calls on Tuesday night if they hadn’t.
Angietothemax | April 27, 2007 at 12:34 pm
But it’s not Angie’s job to solve every problem everywhere. I don’t see why it is necessary to change her focus from international affairs. There are plenty of people in the US that give to the US. The reason why we are hated is because of foreign policy, this war, and the fact that American government gives no money away for free. We only help those that have something to give in return. Besides look at the mess that is Katrina obviously our government doesn’t care too much about America either.
Angietothemax | April 27, 2007 at 12:38 pm
And another thing you never know one of these foreign orphans that Angie is trying to help could grow up and discover the cure for cancer or AIDS. We may live in America but we are still accountable to the world. We all affect each other in some way. Often it is not directly but indirectly. Good is good.
Ani | April 27, 2007 at 12:39 pm
I find it funny that people use the whole “why not help the kids here?” routine so often with her. Are you implying that children here are more important that children here? If they’re not, then helping children is helping children.
And honestly, if you care so much about the children here, why don’t YOU do something about it?
A life is a life, regardless of where they happened to be born.
T-Bone | April 27, 2007 at 12:42 pm
This is hilarious!
Angietothemax said:
“But it’s not Angie’s job to solve every problem everywhere”.
“ANGIE” barely takes care of what’s in her own back yard, so yeah…let’s not get her on board to save the rest of the world too.
Angietothemax | April 27, 2007 at 12:49 pm
Hey at least we agree on something that Angie is not responsible for the rest of the world’s problems. So her work shouldn’t be criticized because people feel she doesn’t give enough money, or aruge for the rights of American. Right T-Bone.
Sue | April 27, 2007 at 12:52 pm
Instead of insulting each other, why not talk about ideas to make things happen…ask others what they are doing and what is working/not working. What can you do? Find out.
It is not about Angelina Jolie.
T-Bone | April 27, 2007 at 12:53 pm
Ani — right back to you, bud. If they’re all equal, then help the “orphans” in the US as well! Don’t discriminate!
When you have millions and millions of dollars and all the time in the world, it’s really not that difficult to give, now is it? I’ll tell you what’s truly amazing in the world! It’s when every-day people (those who are busting their asses to make a living, raising and taking care of families, not wealthy people) give the shirts off of THEIR backs for other people. THAT amazes me. Those are the people who should be up for sainthood — not Angelina Jolie.
eseu | April 27, 2007 at 12:54 pm
I think Angelina Jolie is an “Issue”. It is quite refreshing to hear varied views and opinions about her. I want to conclude this debate by saying in our local palance “UNA WELL DONE – O”. (I am a Nigerian and I live in Nigeria. Thank you all).
Angietothemax | April 27, 2007 at 12:57 pm
T-Bone no one here is comparing her to sainthood just you. But that’s good though because the more people hate on you means you’re doing something very right.

Um Angietothemax — bad argument, bud. Being “hated” does not necessarily mean you’re doing anything right! I think Hitler is probably a good example of that.
And by the way — who here “hates” Angelina Jolie? Do I think she is full of sh*t? Yes. Do I think her lack of female friends is a tell-tale sign of her “I don’t really like or care about other women” mentality? Yes, you bet. Do I think she has serious mental health issues that include a lack of feeling? Yes. Do I think she does half of what she does for the attention of men? Again, yes. Am I glad she’s dishing out her own money to help orphans? Yep — anything helps. Do I hate her? No, I don’t care enough to hate her. But am I on to what she’s doing? I believe I am :)
