Angie Feeling Blue Over Less Than Mighty Box Office Returns

July 26th, 2007 // 69 Comments

Angelina Jolie is reportedly feeling “devastated” that her film, “A Mighty Heart” has earned a mere $9 million. She’s frustrated that there hasn’t been more interest in the movie, which tells the story of journalist Daniel Pear and the struggle made on the behalf of his pregnant wife, Marianne, to determine what exactly happened to her husband.

“She poured her heart into the story and can’t believe people don’t understand how important it is,” the insider tells Us Weekly in this week’s issue.

To take her mind off her woes, Angelina and her family are currently enjoying a holiday in France. The accommodations in Marthon include a swimming pool and private theater and are setting back the couple $13,818 per week. Man, if you’re going to get over a bad movie, then THAT certainly sounds like the way to do it. Actually, a vacation like that would probably help me to get over anything–say if I wanted to feel better after my feet inexplicably fell off. Who needs feet, when you’re watching movies and swimming all day?

You people are morons. you’re taking a piece of gossip with no named source from backwater website as gospel truth; “Angie must be a vain bitch because it says so right there”.

Maybe Angie just likes France…i know i do. The only thing better than France would be France with Brad. Seems pretty sensible.

    LOL
Who said anything about France? Other than she is there with her family. Perhaps you’re the moron, ljj. This is a gossip site…. DUH!!!

It would never have been a big movie, but it would have done better if not accompanied by massive Brangelina overexposure. There’s only so much “suspension of disbelief” one can muster.

I did enjoy that Marianne Pearl launched her Al Qaeda lawsuit about 2 weeks after the movie premiered, when it was clear it was faltering. That’s a new one – use of terrorist organization as a publicity stunt

I stopped going to see depressing movies around 10 years ago.

On top of that I just wasn’t interested in this issue. It was in the news. I watched. I learned. Next.

  4. Shootingstar

    CATRINA, I read about that.

The scary thing is that Marianne doesn’t see anything despicable, inappropriate or disrespectful in that little manuever.

Oh yeah how dare she sue terrorists? It’s horrible!

Mariane Pearl, whose story is told in the recently released movie “A Mighty Heart” starring Angelina Jolie, filed the suit at U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, according to her lawyers.

“Plaintiffs seek to hold responsible those terrorists, terrorist organizations and the supporting charitable and banking organizations for the senseless kidnapping, torture and murder of Daniel Pearl,” the suit said.

It seeks an unspecified amount of money, whatever the court “deems appropriate”, to prevent the defendants from committing similar acts.

Pearl was the South Asia bureau chief of the Journal when he was kidnapped in Karachi in January 2002 while seeking an interview with suspected Islamist militants. After several days in captivity he was beheaded on video.

Among those sued is Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, or Sheikh Omar, who was convicted and sentenced to death in a Pakistani court for his role in the abduction and murder. Three others were jailed for life.

Another defendant is Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, a suspected high-ranking al Qaeda leader and September 11 mastermind who is in U.S. custody. Mohammed admitted to a U.S. military tribunal that he beheaded Pearl, the U.S. military said.

Habib Bank Limited is one of Pakistan’s biggest banks. The lawsuit alleges the bank and its subsidiaries knowingly conducted financial transactions on behalf of charities linked to extremist groups.

“In doing so Habib and its subsidiaries aided, abetted and provided material support in the form of financial services for the terrorist support organizations,” the suit said.

Habib Bank could not be immediately reached for comment.

I think it takes a little longer than 2 weeks to put a lawsuit together. But since the movie came out it would’ve been better to wait 4 weeks then.

If I would want to see something about important issues I wouldn’t want to see an another one sugary holywood’s lie!I would see a documentary film!
It’s a shame that she makes to work the very important things for make herself a-la saint!BLAME ON YOU, ANGIE!

This I agree with and support… I don’t know what will actually come of it, but it seems like a noble effort (especially the part about going after banking and charitable organizations supporting terrorism).

Uh, Angie, maybe the reason people didn’t want to see the movie was that they didn’t feel like watching a bad actress in a bad wig?

  10. Penny

This was a well done movie and Angelina was great in it. I agree that people go to movies to escape and this was a difficult movie to watch since you know the end already. I’m just sad that people prefer to provide movies with millions of earnings when it’s about goblins or two men pretending to be married.

JA could NEVER have done this role – she doesn’t have the acting chops.

  12. j_go00

Angelina (like so many celebrities) is so self centered I don’t think she realizes that people skipped this flick because it really wasn’t about the Pearl family – it was about Angelina’s OSCAR WORTHY PERFORMANCE. Or at least that’s what their p.r. people were shoving down people’s throats. This was a vanity project for Angelina – nothing more.

  13. Angietothemax

So it wouldn’t be because she was asked by Mariane Pearl to do the role? Or because her and Mariane are such good friends that Mariane couldn’t think of anyone she trusted more with the project? When has Angie ever cared about getting an award? She doesn’t have the Oscar she earned.

  14. T-Bone

Angietothemax: Ok, let’s think about this. There are hundreds of thousands of actors in the world. Many of the well known ones are considered physically beautiful and have great bodies. Many of them are super, super wealthy, and many of them give to charities. Many of them are considered eccentric, unique and strong willed. So what do you think it is about Angie that makes her so disliked by so many. And I’m not trying to be condescending. I’m honestly trying to figure it out myself. My feeling is that it’s the inconsistency in her personality and her contradictions. People don’t trust that.

  15. Angietothemax

I say it’s the overexposure. When she got with Brad the media went into overload. And everything she did was splashed across the news. So then people come with opinions of who she is and why she does the things she does. Plus the fact that Angie grew up in the public eye so there is history that people will always refer to. Despite the fact she is 32 now and a different person and will continue to grow and change she is still relegated to kissing her brother, being self destructive, emotionally unstable, Billy Bob, and just being a wild child. Also the fact that she’s human. I’m not consistent all the time as life does happen and I change my mind alot. She just happens to have life happen to her and changer her mind in the public cye

Geez, Michael, in your inane little anti Jolie tantrum do you think you could have tried to be accurate?

MATH CLASS, INDEED. Back to remedial math for you.

These are the correct figures and they do not even include DVD rentals or sales or licensing fees. Did you deliberately lie about the grosses to make some silly , which was what exactly? Want to take a look at the Box Office revenue for Meryl Streep, Judy Dench, Vanessa Redgrave, Cate Blanchett, even Kate Winslet (if you disgard that awful performance in that awful Titanic)? It’s not just about the BO, silly boy.

REAL GROSS CORRECTIONS to MICHAEL’s misleading numbers:

The Good Shepherd: Michael’s gross 59 mil, REAL GROSS $95.3 mil

    Mr/Mrs Smith: Michael’s gross 186 mil, REAL GROSS $478.2 mil – that’s almost half a billion

Alexander: Michael’s gross 34 mil, REAL GROSS $167.2

Shark Tale: Michael omitted this, REAL GROSS $363.5 mil

    LaraCroft2: Michael’s gross 65 mil, REAL GROSS $156.5 mil

Lara Croft1: Michael’s gross 131 mil, REAL GROSS $274.7 mil

Gone In 60 Sec: Michael’s gross 100 mil, REAL GROSS $237.2 mil

Bone Collector: Michael’s gross 66 mil, REAL GROSS $151.49 mil

Sky Captain: Michael’s gross 37 mil, REAL GROSS $57 mil

Taking Lives: Michael’s gross 32 mil, REAL GROSS $65.47 mil

Beyond Borders: Michael’s gross 4 mil, REAL GROSS $11.43 mil

Life or Something: Michael’s gross 14 mil, REAL Gross $16.87 mil

Original Sin: Michael’s gross 16 mil, REAL GROSS $35.4 mil

Girl, Interrupted: Michael’s gross 28 mil, REAL GROSS $48.3

    Try again, Michael

  17. PantsAnderson

I don’t think a lot of Jolie’s movies are particularly rife with lisencing deals, Tomb Raider aisde. And Shark Tale was an animated movie that pretty much featured every working actor in Hollywood–even Martin Scorcese, who’s not an actor. Dividing box office clout from that leaves you with a small piece of the pie.

And DVD sales don’t exhibit how bankable someone is.

  18. Whoa David! Log off and go outside! You need a hobby bud.

  19. Notyourmother

Angietothemaxipad please do your homework. Hotel Rwanda did almost 23.5 million and Flight 93 did almost 31.5 million. LOTS better than this movie that people did not want to see because they can no longer separate this borderline personality unfortunate from the characters she tries to play.
