Isn’t it about time that Pete Doherty does either some hard time, or be carted off to an extended (six months or more) stint at rehab. Otherwise this man is going to wind up dead. His vow of starting a “drug free life” really hasn’t been going that well.
Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty has been arrested on suspicion of stealing a car and possessing class A drugs. Mr Doherty, 26, and two men from Dundee – aged 18 and 19 – were detained by police in Birmingham on Monday evening.
A West Midlands Police spokesman said all three had been released on police bail “pending further enquiries”. The singer, whose band’s hits include Albion, recently received a 12-month community service order after pleading guilty to drug possession.
He was ordered to attend a drug rehabilitation programme and warned he could face prison if he broke his community service order.
He subsequently vowed to “start a drug-free life” and told Channel 4 News that he was “not that much of a junkie anyway”.

oh god…another one…he was lucky to escape last time from prison but I think thats it now he will have to do some sort of time…:S
jeez .. this guy has some serious issues !!! Is he just famous for dating Kate Moss?? I would like to know what else he has done. He is starting to remind of Paris Hilton. Just famous for no reason or does he have one.

wow…If I had known that I could be like that and still not be ‘much of a junkie’ I would have started taking harder drugs.
There is little they can give him for stealing the car, and the possession will depend on the amount he was carrying, even if it is a repeat offence.
I think perhaps Pete Doherty fits himself into the role, carved out by the tired old cliché of substance abusing genius, aka Charles Bukowski, Tennesee Williams etc. Either he thinks he is immune from the damage drugs can do, or he thinks it is romantic to end his life via such means.
It doesn’t take a genius to know that drugs are a barrier, often put up to conceal fears, get Pete Clean and I think he would claim the loss of his gift. Prison won’t work and I hope he gets a good rehab order before his mum has to bury him far too young.
No such thing as being only a bit of a junkie; either you are or you’re not. Even if he is not addicted to the drug, he is addicted to what it represents.

To answer tia, he was in The Libertines and Baby Shambles. I dont see how he isnt locked up by now. He’s been arrested about 5 times this year alone for class A drug possesion…
Pete was in the band The Libertines, he was suppose to be some sort of genius poet. Then he was kicked out of the Libertines for being a junkie. He formed Babyshambles and put out an album of so so songs.
Ive watched several interviews and such about him and dont agree with the genius thing..maybe he had some promise when he was younger, he did win an award for a poem he wrote in his youth, but then he got involved in drugs and is just a shameful mess. I think he wants to die a tragic death so people can talk about how beautiful his work was and make him into something he is clearly not.
I dont understand why they just dont throw his ass in jail, he keeps posting bail and literally goes back on the street and gets arrested again.
He needs someone to step in and take over for him because he obviously cannot do anything himself.
Hold it! Think about this: Kate Moss was getting naked with him and doing those things that most people do when they get naked with each other.
his music is amazing. who cares if he does drugs, it’s his life. please don’t compare him to paris hilton. she has NO talent. he has a brilliant mind but some serious issues. buy ‘up the bracket’, it’s the best rocknroll album in years
I’m on holiday here in the NY but when I was back home Babyshambles and Pete Doherty were a moderately sucessful band. NO ONE in America know what/who he or Babyshambles are, and the people that do know of it through Kate Moss anyway.
He’s looks completely flaccid, and rather odd.
He would be the perfect image for a ‘this is your brain on drugs’ poster.
I haven’t heard Libertines or BAbyshambles, but Doherty’s performance at Live8 was absolutely terrible!

while I agree with you that “it’s his life”, and he can kill himself with an OD if he wants, or catch some disease from sharing needles…
the minute he gets behind the wheel of a car under the influence, he becomes a danger to other people and should be put in jail. and NOT let out. to answer your question of “who cares”, I’d say “all the other drivers and pedestrians on the same roads as he is.”

I think people should consider his music and poetry before abusing him. Fair enough, he is a drug addict, and he is committing crimes. But before you attack him, just listen to his lyrical genius, drug addict or not… the guy doesn’t deserve the stick…
