ASL’s Letter From The Editor, Lisa Timmons

State of the Blog Address

Writing so many gossip posts on a daily basis, I felt like I needed to set aside some time during the week to actually sit down and write something to address you, the readers, about what the heck is going on with the site. Or, if we’re not particularly busy any given week, what the heck is going on in my kitchen/office here in my studio apartment where I get most of my work done. And eat breakfast. And sometimes lunch. So, that’s what this letter is all about.

It’s actually pretty ironic that I’m working for a celebrity gossip blog, whose goal it is to provide timely, accurate-ish information about pop culture and celebrities and hopefully make you guys laugh or at least snort at our “unique” take on the situation. The reason for the irony is that until I had this job, I was pretty much always the last person to know. Back in 1996, I was so excited about this awesome band named, “Nirvana,” and was wondering if you’d heard about them, cause they’re really cool. I hope they keep making albums long into the future. Sigh.

More of the “State of the Blog Address” after the jump, yo…

That was (and sometimes still IS) me. Little did I know, the career of painstaking information gathering and pop culture research awaited me. I became skilled at pretending to be abreast of every blip on the celebrity gossip radar, quickly learning that a well-timed declaration of, “Please tell me you don’t think THIS is news!” was a pretty simple way to conceal my ignorance.

But now, I pride myself–or at least my RSS reader–on knowing what the hell is going on in the world of celebrity crotch-shots and rehab visits. Or at least most of the time. And sometimes, a short little blog post doesn’t serve the particular story/issue justice and I want to raise my hand and say, “Hey. I have more nonsensical ramblings to share about that subject.” And that’s also what this letter is for.

Courtney Love on “American Idol” – Yes or No?

Now, I know this is actually getting a bit dated, but I’m still kind of stuck on it, so bear with me. When I first heard that this was even a remote possibility, I got every excited. I know that Courtney has recently befriended Whitney Houston in an attempt to help the former crackhead ditch her shady habits and get on the straight and narrow. And even though I know in my mind that she had SOMETHING to do with Kurt Cobain’s passing (I saw the documentary just like everybody else. Granted, it was of course YEARS after it came out, but still…), and that her plastic surgery addiction has proven to be just as detrimental to her being as her dalliances in drugs, there is still something oddly appealing and indestructible about this woman that makes me want her to stick around. Or at least make some appearances on high-profile reality television.

And then it was revealed that this rumor was in fact just a rumor. But the funny part about the situation is how totally plausible the situation seemed. I mean, why the hell WOULDN’T they have Courtney on the show? Cause she’s not really that big of a star? Cause she’s often out of her mind and rambles about confusing things that make no sense? Aren’t all of those things equally as applicable to Paula, whose consciousness during the show is not exactly a foregone conclusion?

In any case, I’m sad to hear it was all a joke. A cruel, cruel joke and once I’ve wiped these tears off my face, I’m going to listen to those two songs I like on “Celebrity Skin” in honor of my sadness.

And to lessen the risk of completely losing you guys in this long, rambly column I’ve just written, I’m going to end it here with a simple plea. Won’t someone please at least give the woman her own show? And put it on network television, cause I don’t have cable. Please?

Until next week, my red-headed stepchildren.
