The James Cameron directed blockbuster reportedly cost close to $250 million dollars to make. I assume the source of the large cost is due to the extensive animation, which took 100 hours of computer time per frame. This film is ripe with floating mountains, flying jellyfish, and blue skinned alien-avatars, so I suppose all the money was worth it!
After two decades apart Cameron and Weaver teamed up again for this sci-fi/fantasy thriller and Weaver couldn’t be happier with the film. Weaver stated “It [Avatar] will pick you up and shake you like a rag doll.” She continued, “I’m not too much of an emotional creature, but I was weeping by the end. I remember reading the script and thinking, I love this but how can he [Cameron] ever do this. Nothing like this had been done before-floating mountains!”
Now, I’m realistic, I understand stars have to spout this type of nonsense about a film. They must claim whatever film they happen to be starring in at the moment is the best piece of work to ever grace our eyes, but give me a break! A science fiction acid trip of a film brought tears to your eyes?! After years of Hollywood press junkets Weaver must be out of credible gobbledygook to spew. They should stick with the appeal of fantastic animation to sell tickets- this is reason enough to see a film!
Cameron needs Titanic appeal for this film to recoup the large production cost! Personally, I plan on contributing my hard earned cash to such a noble cause and, I pledge, should this film bring tears to these eyes I will handwrite a letter to Ms. Weaver apologizing for my cynicism. However, if her statement is a fabrication to fill theater seats, I will not rest until both Weaver and Cameron have begged for my forgiveness! Not even my love for Working Girl can save Weaver from my wrath!
On a side note- Can you believe Weaver is 60 years old? She looks fantastic!
