TMZ.com is reporting “Sk8er Boi” singer Avril Lavigne has officially filed for divorce from her husband Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley. Avril cites “irreconcilable differences” for the split. The court papers also indicate she is not requesting spousal support and does not want to pay Deryck spousal support.
The Canadian couple was married in July 2006 in Montecito, California and has been officially separated since September. It should be noted the pair hadn’t been spotted together for quite sometime prior to the September announcement.
Is anyone honestly suprised by this outcome? The odds were against the couple from day one. Hollywood marriages never seem to last and Avril was only 21 years old on her wedding day. Despite what was the inevitable split of the duo, divorce is never easy. On the bright side both can channel this heartbreak into new albums!
