BET Awards Gift Suite

June 27th, 2007 // Leave a Comment

So I got a chance to take a behind-the-scenes peek at the BET Awards Gift Suite created for the stars attending the event by Backstage Creations. First, I stopped at the Girlie Designs table and chatted with Linda Antwi, the creative force behind the fashion label based in Los Angeles. She had tank-tops featuring the slogan, “Little Brown Girl,” as well as a collection of clutch purses. Her wares caught the eyes of Tichina Arnold, Gladys Knight, Vanessa Williams, Mo’Nique, Jennifer Hudson, Jennifer Holliday and Patti LaBelle. Linda donates a percentage of her profits from every event in which she participates to a non-profit/charitable organization. The off-white tank with the butterfly on it was designed by a Hurricane Katrina victim. I managed to snag a 15%-off coupon for the Girlie Designs store in West Hollywood, which I will definitely be paying a visit. I love the “Brown Girl” tanks, but feel like maybe an “Off-White Girl” tank might be more appropriate.

After that, I stopped at the XM Radio table, which was boasting a giveaway of the smallest XM Radio and mp3 player on the market. They’d already been paid visits from Ne-Yo, Fabolous, Mary Mary, Erykah Badu, Mario, Tracee Ellis Ross and they were in the process of providing Swizz Beats with his new toy when I arrived to check it out.

More dish on all the BET gifting suite bling after the jump.

Fendi eyewear had already been visited by Mo’Nique, Big Tigger, Miss Jay, JHud, Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, Fabolous, Flavor Flav (and yes, he was wearing a clock), Public Enemy, Mario, the Cheetah Girls and Sean Kingston before I sneaked over to take a look.

Throughout the tent, the celebrities who passed through had been signing various items, like a couch and various BET gift items, which would be auctioned off later to raise funds for the BET Foundation, whose goal it is to promote healthy lifestyles in the African-American community. My favorite was Mo’Nique’s signature on the couch, in which she had drawn an outline of her rear end, signing “This belongs to Mo’Nique.”

And just because they looked so cute, I decided to snap a picture of Alishia Adams and Pia Williams, the two girls working the Evian booth. On my way out, I popped into the Shrine Auditorium to go to the bathroom and ran into two “Flavor of Love” girls, who can also currently be seen on “Charm School” with Mo’Nique. Hottie (Schatar) and Smiley (Leilene) both popped into the restroom to freshen up and I’m sure they were headed for the gift suite that I’d just left behind. I was tempted to ask to take their pictures, but I draw the line at restroom photography. For now.
