Talk about a star studded wedding!

When Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants actress Amber Tamblyn announced her engagement to David Cross, who stars in Arrested Development, in August 2011, speculation about the unusual pairing sparked immediately. But over a year later, when the couple finally decided to tie the knot, it seems that being unusual is what may have brought the couple together in the first place.

Rather than a wedding in a church or mansion, the pair was wed in a rural outdoors setting with guests walking through a lush forest to access the small arrangement of a makeshift ceremonial aisle. As a Tuexedo-accented Cross waited among his guests, the bride arrived, via canoe, in a yellow lacy dress with flowers in her hair. Oh yeah, and she was barefoot. I guess that’s one way to not worry about feet hurting in heels all day!

The reception was held in the same forest, presumably. Most of the decor was included with the venue, so to speak. There were a few modern additions including a dance floor, a small banquet area, and a liberal amount of twinkling strings of lights, and to top it all off, a triple-layer wedding cake featuring 2 raccoons holding a heart that read “D+A.” Indie rock band, Yo La Tengo performed, while Questlove, of The Roots, served as DJ.

Questlove acted not only as DJ, but also as the unofficial wedding photographer. The drummer was on his instagram throughout the day, posting candid pictures of the event. Thanks to him, we caught a glimpse of the prestigious guest list including Amy Poehler, Jason Ritter, and Tamblyn’s Sisterhood co-stars America Ferrera and Alexis Bledel. Another co-star of Sisterhood in attendance was fellow newly-wed, Blake Lively who stepped out  for the first time with her husband Ryan Reynolds since their own quiet wedding in September.

With charm bursting at the seams, it’s no wonder that all the photos of the bride, groom and guest were of exceedingly happy-looking people.  All in all, the entire ceremony seemed to go off without a hitch, and was filled with love and support. I guess going against tradition sometimes works beautifully.

The otherwise-quiet event was thoroughly documented by Questlove alone. He must have been instagram-hungry that day, and for that we thank him.
