To the negative commentors you should ask yourself where you learned this hatred for a natural function of life. Are a womens breast worth nothing but for sexual gratification? Try to open your minds past this learned hatred. Obviously Maggie knows she is photographed and I think this is her push to open talk and acceptance of naturally feeding your child in the way it was intended by nature. GROW UP PEOPLE!

She probably is trying to be discreet, baby blocking friends view, other side facing bushes, but the paparazzi is IN the freakin bushes. Babies feed every 2 hours, she can’t hide in a basement every 2 hours.

I am thrilled to see this photo. I think it’s great a celebrity is willing to show the world that it is 100% ok to breastfeed anywhere you and your baby are. As for the person who mentioned a pump and a bottle do you have children because my 8 month old never would take a bottle? It is not uncommon for a breastfed baby to refuse the bottle. Besides that who wants to lug around bottles and milk all day when you could just breastfeed?

A bottle is NOT best for baby. By training your child to take a bottle you are exposing them a heightened risk of orthodontic damage. If a mother chooses to take that risk due to her own personal comforts, that is her prerogative, but to suggest it is better then breastfeeding or that a mother is ONLY breastfeeding for attention, and not to give her child what is best, is ignoring the biological facts. Further the properties in breastmilk are altered when pumped and saved to be fed later in a bottle. While bottlefeeding breastmilk is healthier for a child then formula it is still not as beneficial as breastfeeding itself, both due to actual changes in the substance and orthodontia issues that could present themselves. Bottom line is adults need to get over their hangups about a mother providing what is best for her child’s health.

That is so wrong! I am disgusted! Who lets their baby’s sock hang half off her foot like that?!

Seriously though. It’s a baby, it’s a boob, it’s lunch. We all have nipples.

Even if a breast is sexual, so what? Lips are sexual when you kiss with them but not when you talk with them. What’s the big difference with a boob?

  7. Yay! I’m so happy to see a breast feeding celebrity! I wish I could send her an email to express my gratitude for helping normalize nursing our babes.

What’s gross about feeding your kid? And where should she feed her child to be sure not to run into photographers? In the bathroom maybe? Do you want to eat in the bathroom?
She’s taking care of her child. You don’t want to see it, don’t look. Geez…

Wooo-hooooo Maggie and Ramona! And it’s not a bad latch. It just looks like baby’s all done and popping off. My daughter went through a “stretch the nipple out as far as possible” phase for awhile. All you people with the negative comments are so ridiculous. It’s a breast. Doing what it was meant to do. Big deal! I think it’s beautiful. Maggie is so comfortable with her body. I only wish I could be that confident.

I am so happy to see this photo! For all those with neagaative things to say about her boob hanging out, what about the girls who walk around woth their boobs almost out of their shirts? I love Maggie!

Maggie: putting a face on white trash.

I really really like Maggie! She is a great actress.. granted she should have put a blanky up to hide her nip nip.. but I like her none-the-less.

For those of you who aren’t sure about a baby nursing in that position, let me assure you, that is a pretty common nursing position for a lot of babies. Babies of that age like to look around a lot, and often times they wont take the time to eat if they cant see what else is going on. Yes, at that particular moment, the baby was looking down, but in that position, she is also able to look around.

Ms Gyllenhaal is probably using her celebrity status as an opportunity to normalize breastfeeding. She is very much aware of the fact that her picture will be taken, so instead of hiding away when her child eats, she does it in the plain sight, so that all can see that it isnt a big deal. Its just a boob.

I’m so glad to see this photo! It’s totally OKAY to breastfeed in public, and there’s no law that says you have to cover up. Even if she was totally covered, she’s photographed every second so something would show even if it was for a split second. So if it’s going to be impossible to keep your nonnies off the net, why not just whip them out when you need to without making your baby sweat under a blanket? BRAVO MAGGIE! :)

    Bad Latch, Great picture!!!

Breastfeeding is beautiful, natural and absolutely acceptable to do in public. If you have such a problem with our breastfeeding, perhaps you should eat your meal under a blanket :)
