Now there’s one more reason why I love Harry Potter….er, Daniel Radcliffe. The British mega star uses his star power to fight for the rights of gay and lesbian couples. In an interview with Attitude UK, Radcliffe opens up about gay marriage, homophobic bullying in schools, as well as his personal life. He gave grownup advice to opponents of same-sex marriage stating, ”Don’t define as straight or gay, define yourself as people and help another person if they’re in trouble.” Couldn’t have put it any better myself, mate.
The ‘Harry Potter’ actor also goes on to voice his opinion on why he believes that gay marriage should be legalized everywhere.
The ultimate reason gay marriage should be legalized everywhere is because, as a kid, you look to your mum and dad and they’re married; then you look at the gay couple who’ve been together for the same amount of time, but because they can’t get married their relationship doesn’t seem the same. Yes, gay marriage is about symbolically blessing a relationship, but the larger issue is about transmitting a fundamental message about equality. Gay people should have equality in law everywhere.”
It’s always awesome to hear young individuals give their honest opinion about a topic so divided as gay rights and gay marriage. It gives me hope for the future. Radcliffe looked dapper on the cover of Attitude. He does look like he needs to hit the tanning bed in many of the other shots, but he sure does know how to make a photo shoot look fun!
