With the Queen and Prince Philip‘s blessing, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge broke with tradition and spent Christmas with the Middletons in Berkshire on Christmas day.  However, William and Catherine plan to spend time at Sandringham over the holiday.

Catherine bundled herself up in a red scarf and chocolate Hobbs coat, which she wore last Valentine’s Day on a visit to The Brink alcohol-free bar in Liverpool.  Catherine clutched her red Gucci purse as she exited St. Mark’s with Prince William and her family, including Pippa, Carole and James Middleton.

Meanwhile, the royal family gathered for their annual walk to St. Mary Magdalene Church on the grounds of the Queen’s Sandrigham estate in Norfolk, England.  Her Majesty appeared in wonderful health, just two days after suffering from a nasty cold that prevented her from attending church.  Read More »

We learned a bit about the Countess of Wessex this past year, and noticed that her personal style rivals that of the Duchess of Cambridge.

A favorite of the Queen, Sophie is married to Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, and together they have two children – Louise and James.

Sophie and Edward were patrons of Team GB at this year’s 2012 Summer Olympics, and Her Royal Highness waved the Union Jack proudly for Britain while wearing everything from a smart red blazer to the team polo.  Read More »

What a splendid year it’s been.  SOCIALITE LIFE kicked off The Duchess Diary in August, and since then we’ve had the pleasure of speaking to many an expert in all matters royalty.

I went on The Daily Buzz with host Hyla yesterday to jam about the year of the Windsors.

And what a banner year it was.  Between regional engagements, the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the Summer Olympics – oh right, and the promise of a baby in 2013 – Britain was top dog.

It was was a tough task to select only five moments, because I loved every royal minute of 2012.  Though the best and brightest moments were captured on video, it’s wise to give honorable mention to the following:

1) Kate’s outing with the Duchess of Cornwall and Queen Elizabeth to Fortnum & Mason.  This was the first time we saw all three senior female royals together, and you could tell that Kate was keen to step back and let Her Majesty shine.  Inside, the ladies clucked like hens over sweets and teas, with Kate urging Camilla to come over to where she was at one point to sample some candy.  A tip of the cap to Kate for purchasing her M Missoni coat at the outlets, BTW.  ILYKM.  Read More »

The Duchess of Cambridge felt well enough to attend her staff’s luncheon today at Notting Hill’s Bumpkin restaurant.  According to the Telegraph, she and the Duke of Cambridge joined 27 members of their household staff in the Queen’s Room, enjoying a Christmas menu under a portrait of Her Majesty.

Staff at the Bumpkin told the paper that Catherine looked “a picture of health” in a floral white and blue dress.  She ate turkey and stuck to soft drinks during the meal

Meanwhile, history was being made over at 10 Downing Street.

Queen Elizabeth looked especially regal today as she was greeted by Prime Minister David Cameron.  Wearing a bright blue dress with matching coat by Stewart Parvin, Her Majesty sat in on a Cabinet meeting, and toured the Foreign and Commonwealth offices.

The Queen’s visit to the weekly Cabinet meeting as an observer is the first time a monarch has done so since Queen Victoria’s reign.  These meetings consist of about 20-30 senior ministers who run shop in matters of state and government.  Read More »

All eyes on are the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as they prepare to welcome a future monarch in 2013, but we may be forgetting another royal who is eager to start a family.

William’s cousin, Zara Phillips got engaged to now-husband Mike Tindall just a few months after he and Catherine announced theirs.

Phillips and Tindall married on July 31st, 2011 in Edinburgh, Scotland.  If you recall, Catherine wore a lovely potato chip hat to the ceremony.

The Sun spoke exclusively to Sky Sports News presenter Kirsty Gallacher, a friend of Phillips, about the Queen welcoming yet another great-granchild.

“I know they’re up for it — Zara is wonderful with children and is absolutely fantastic with her brother Peter’s two,” Gallagher, who attended both Phillips’ hen party and wedding last year, said.  ”She’s such good fun and will be a great mum.  Read More »

Good on her!   The Duchess of Cambridge, still feeling a bit wobbly due to acute morning sickness, insisted on sticking to a commitment tonight that topped out a summer she won’t soon forget.

As Team GB’s ambassador, Catherine put on a brave face for BBC’s Sports Personality of The Year Awards tonight in London.  Though she said not a word while presenting, all eyes were on the DoC as she chatted with David Beckham and other athletes on stage.

Her Royal Highness wore Alexander McQueen‘s Bell Sleeve floor-length gown in bottle green, according to What Kate Wore, which contrasted marvelously against her trademark locks.  My friend Anna confirmed that Catherine wore the same Kiki McDonough drop earrings we saw throughout HRH’s more formal appearances this summer.
