Oh, golly.  Who to point the finger to regarding the prank call two Australian DJs pulled on a nurse at King Edward VII Hospital in London this morning.

While the Duchess of Cambridge is still being treated for hyperemesis gravidarum, the call was put through and some poor nurse believed she was on the line with Queen Elizabeth.

“She’s sleeping at the moment and she has had an uneventful night,” the nurse told  2Day FM DJ Mel Greig, who was impersonating the Queen.

John Lofthouse, the hospital’s chief executive, released the following statement: “This was a foolish prank call that we all deplore. We take patient confidentiality extremely seriously and we are now reviewing our telephone protocols.”

While St. James’s Palace declined to comment on the matter, former press secretary to the Queen, Dickie Arbiter told the Daily Mail that is was “a shocking breach of security.”

“The Royal Family have been clients of the King Edward VII Hospital for many, many years and it simply beggars belief that a member of the public could call up and obtain details of the Duchess’s medical condition in this way.”

Apparently a legal team vetted the pre-recorded call before allowing it to air from Sydney, but the duo released a statement of apology after the incident went down.

“We were very surprised that our call was put through,” the statement read.  ”We thought we’d be hung up on as soon as they heard our terrible accents.

“We’re very sorry if we’ve caused any issues and we’re glad to hear that Kate is doing well.”

Adorable: Royalist Terry Hutt Holds Vigil Outside Duchess Kate’s Hospital

December 4th, 2012 // Leave a Comment

Bless your heart, Terry Hutt.  You’ve got flowers and cards for the Duchess of Cambridge, have you?

The 77-year-old royalist is a man after my own heart; He camped out in London four days ahead of William and Catherine’s wedding last year , and has spoken to Queen Elizabeth on many an occasion during her royal engagements.

“I met the Queen for the first time when I was 58,” Hutt told Cambridge News before the Duke and Duchess paid the area a visit. “I’d just retired and I decided I wanted to see what was going on, so I went to Clarence House.

“She [The Queen] knows me as the Union Jack man as I’m always dressed up in red, white and blue,” the grandfather and campaigner said with a laugh. “They’re my colours and she’ll always talk to me; we’ve talked about her mum before.”  Read More »

Front Page Spreads Celebrate Will & Kate’s Baby News [PHOTOS]

December 4th, 2012 // Leave a Comment

While this God-awful image made front page news (nice, NY Post), other publications chose to toast the royal couple.

The Daily Mail put out a historic 14-page spread on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s baby news with the caption “A Nation’s Joy,  A Husband’s Nerves.”

The Sun‘s cover is pretty swell (“Kate Expectations”), but the Daily Star wins for their superweird photo of a baby William with a wig on.

While Catherine is regaining her strength at King Edward VII hospital (she and William are “immensely grateful” for the well wishes, according to St. James’s Palace), the Commonwealth is moving ahead with eradicating male primogeniture, which allows a son to leapfrog his older sister in order to become sovereign.   Read More »

December 4th, 2012 // Leave a Comment

Prince William arrived back at the King Edward VII hospital this morning to visit the Duchess of Cambridge, who will remain there for several days, according to the palace.

Catherine is pregnant with the couple’s first child, but unfortunately St. James’s Palace had to make the announcement before her 12-week scan, as it proved impossible to keep her condition out of the press.

Catherine has also had to cancel upcoming engagements this week, including the British Military Tournament on Sunday, December 9th.

According to the Daily Mail‘s Rebecca English, Catherine is “responding well” to treatments.  Carole Middleton was seen leaving her Bucklebury home today, no doubt heading to visit her daughter.  Royal gynecologists Alan Farthing and Marcus Setchell are treating Catherine, who did not want to make the announcement until Christmas at Sandringham.  Read More »

For those of you who’ve been calling a royal bump since the wedding…

People get so caught up in saying it because at some point, they’re going to be right and then it’s going to look like they got the scoop.

I want to say to them,  ’No.  That was just good timing! You didn’t get the scoop.’

Prince William was photographed leaving the King Edward VII Hospital in Central London this evening (December 3rd) after visiting the Duchess of Cambridge, who is expecting the couple’s first child.

Catherine was admitted to hospital after falling ill while at her parents’ house in Bucklebury, according to royal reporter Richard Palmer.  William drove his wife from her childhood home to hospital, after which she will rest at home.

St. James’s Palace confirmed that Catherine is suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum, and unfortunately she’s had to cancel three upcoming engagements as a result.
