Doublemint gum ads prominently featuring singer Chris Brown have been suspended while the pop star remains the subject of an investigation. In the wake of reports that girlfriend Rihanna was found by police in Brown’s rented Lamborghini “beaten really badly and hysterical,” Wrigley is pulling the ads.
The “Disturbia” singer reportedly called 911 after her boyfriend fled the scene, taking the car keys with him. She was then taken to the emergency room for treatment after an attack that reportedly involved “a deadly weapon,” while Chris turned himself into police.
Injuries sustained by Rihanna include “a bloody lip and nose,” and two “huge contusions” on either side of her forehead, as well as multiple bite wounds. Rumor has it that Rihanna might cancel an upcoming Asian tour and her family “want[s] to get her back to Barbados. They want to keep her away from Chris right now.”
As for Brown, he’s no stranger to domestic violence, having admitted in a 2007 interview with Giant magazine that he witnessed his stepfather brutally beating his mother. Brown recalled, “I remember one night he made her nose bleed. I was crying and thinking, ‘I’m just gonna go crazy on him one day…’ I hate him to this day.”
