Christina Aguilera has noted Etta James as her inspiration many times and today she paid tribute once again by belting out the classic wedding song at the late singer’s funeral in Los Angeles.
Wearing a low blazer, Aguilera said, “She was the one that cut right through my soul. So tonight, Etta, this song is for you,” the 31-year-old entertainer said before performing. James passed away last week of complications from leukaemia, aged 73.
Stevie Wonder also took the stage to sing “Shelter in the Rain” with a church choir accompanying, President Barack Obama wrote a letter and Rev. Al Sharpton delivered the eulogy.

PLEASE, CHRISTINA PUT A VERSION OF AT LAST OUT TO COMMEMORATE THE LATE GREAT ETTA JAMES… GIRL, YOU SOUND SO GOOD YOU MADE ME CRY… YOU SING IT WAY BETTER THAN STEALING “SLUT”, EVER WILL. YOU ARE THE FIRST…
You must be joking. You call someone else a slut, but Christina’s breasts are popping out and crap trickling down her leg at a funeral. A funeral for someone she respected. No offense to Christina but this was not a concert or the Grammys. She did way too much histrionics and overdid it. This was just tacky and horrible. The whole thing was except for Stevie Wonder, who kept it classy. And enough with the “Etta hated Beyonce” crap. I’m so sick of Etta James legacy to be seen as gossip fodder and a way for people that don’t like Beyonce in the first place to bring her up to call her names. First off, Etta later apologized for anything that was said out of turn. People need to take a page out of her book. It’s not about Xtina or Beyonce. This is about Etta James and remembering the positive things about her music. Why is everything about hate and fame? And not hating on Xtina either because back 10 years ago she blew everyone out the water with At Last. This is not the Xtina I am a fan of, I’m sorry. Xtina would have worn a pants suit and a hat, kept it to the bare basics.
she sounds like the cowardly lion at the beginning.
