Clive Davis Is Grumpy, Pissed At Kelly Clarkson

May 25th, 2007 // 6 Comments

Clive Davis gave a speech on the “American Idol” finale that basically mentioned every “Idol” breakout star except for Kelly Clarkson. Clive and Kelly are at each other’s throats because he thought her new album sucked, and she wants it out there anyway. So everyone’s saying he didn’t mention her on purpose because he’s a curmudgeon. I’ll tell ya this much – I saw the video. She’s wearing a lot of earrings and everyone’s in white except for her black bra and she’s in the tub and *shudder*. And the song’s kinda lame. He might have had a point.

The 75-year-old owlish music mogul was tasked with speaking to the huge TV audience about the health of the “A.I” franchise and appeared to go out of his way to avoid mentioning Kelly’s new single “Never Again” (which reached the Top 10 for heaven’s sake!) or her forthcoming CD, “My December.” Yet he somehow managed to find time to plug both Taylor Hicks and Katharine McPhee’s new singles! Clive did briefly allude to two-time Grammy winner Clarkson — but only to praise the talents of outside songwriters working with “Idols.” Ouch!

Sources backstage at the finale report that Sony/BMG execs attempted to apologize to Kelly’s team — but their backtracking on behalf of the man with the golden ears fell on deaf ears. A well-placed source told TMZ, “Clive’s actions, both delaying the album, and now this, tell you everything you need to know about how he feels about Kelly.” That’s no way to treat a 15-million-album-selling lady!

Kelly’s huge hit “Since U Been Gone” was written with outside songwriters and the word is, she didn’t even want to release it as a single. So Clive knows something or two. She should know better – never piss a cranky old guy off. They carry that shit to the grave. They will get you.

Good lord, after selling that many albums, the girl should be able to experiment…isn’t that what being an “artist” is about? Who wants a “puppet career”. I don’t get why everyone dislikes the song; I think it’s great! The more I listen, the more I like it. It sounds like some of the early eighties Pat Benetar stuff…heaven forbid something’s out there that doesn’t sound like everything else…

It really seems strange that the music that all the kiddies are listening to these days are put out there by a dude in his mid 70′s. I guess he’s just that good.

So is Clive the reason 99.9% of the music played today really bites? I mean, have you TRIED to listen to the radio lately?
I read that Clive had sent her a song off of Lindsey Lohans last album ( hello? Lindsey a singer? Paris? ugh) and wanted her to record it. Oh yeah, that man is solid gold, baby.

I hope Kelly finds a better label to support her, by the way, how much money has she made them?

You do know that the original SUBG was a poppy song worse than Girlfriend? Kelly rocked it up against Clive’s wishes and then it became a success.
