15-year-old Dakota Fanning has certainly been a busy woman this past summer, breaking out of her child actress shell. The cheerleading member of her high school’s homecoming court is prepping for the premiere of The Twilight Saga: New Moon, as well as next year’s The Runaways.

In both films, Fanning stars with Kristen Stewart, with whom she became fast friends. Of their newfound friendship, Dakota tells Teen Vogue, “We became really close, like we’d known each other for our whole lives. We talk all the time.”

In fact, the twosome developed such a close bond pretending to be real-life band mates, Cherie Currie and Joan Jett. Fanning admits, “The relationship that Joan and Cherie have in the script is kind of the one that Kristen and I have in real life, minus the destructive part.”

However, this made things difficult when Dakota’s Jane had to interact with Bella Swan in New Moon. Fanning explains, “I’ve never been such an evil character, and because I do know Kristen so well, being mean to her was really weird. It’s like, Sorry, dude!”
