When Debra Messing first took on the role of Grace in “Will & Grace,” she was instructed to wear additional padding to enhance the appearance of her ta-ta’s. However, after the pilot was picked up, she decided that she didn’t want to keep up the charade.
“When we shot the pilot, I was handed – in the wardrobe – chicken cutlets,” Messing said at a Tribeca Film Festival panel Sunday. “They were [supposed to be] boobs. And I wore them.
“After the show was picked up, at the first fitting, I said, ‘I don’t want to wear these. I actually like the idea that she’s completely flat-chested, and I think there’s comedy in that.
“We shot three episodes, and then I was called to my executive producer’s office. They sat me down and said, ‘We got a call from the president of NBC, and they said, ‘What happened to her boobs?’”
Messing’s response: “I said, ‘F- ‘em.’ They were not happy. … They said, ‘You have to wear them,’ and I said, ‘No.’”
That’s so weird. For some reason, I was also forced to wear falsies when I first started this job. Apparently, I’m not “busty” enough to blog. And who was enforcing this bust enhancement? No one. Once again, I’m lying. That’s what I do.

Debra also mentioned at the panel that Grace couldn’t fart on the show…that is was considered gross by the producer. And so, at the end of the panel discussion, it was opened to the audience for questions. The funniest Q&A was a Debra Messing look alike who asked Debra if they could do a show together where they are sisters who burp, fart and are flat-chested. Debra Messing replied…”Amen sister, let’s do it.” The woman said, I’ll write it and both of us will act. Debra replied, “And I can fart!” I have to tell you, it was very funny and very cute.
