Dolly Parton Quote Of The Day

February 27th, 2006 // 9 Comments

“Having a big gay following, I get hate mail and threats,” she says. “Some people are blind or ignorant, and you can’t be that prejudiced and hateful and go through this world and still be happy. One thing about this movie is that I think art can change minds. It’s all right to be who you are.”

Dolly Parton is nominated for an Oscar for her song Travelin’ Thru, from the film Transamerica.

I just love Dolly…she seems to be one of the most genuinely nice people in the show biz world.

I don’t know if it was her or someone else who said it about her, but she’s been described as “the most real fake-looking person you’d ever meet” or “the most fake-looking real person you’d ever meet”, but you get the idea. She herself has said some really funny things about her looks, like “it costs a lot of money to look this cheap” and “I never have bad hair days…only my wigmakers do”.

she really seems like a wonderful person. I will say, however, that (based on a recent interview I saw) she’s had WAY to much plastic surgery.

Dolly is the best. I love her. She is what a famous person should act like. She is so open and honest and lovely.

I’ve actually been to DollyWood people. Yeah, DollyWood. It was one of those trying-to-placate-my-mother-so-let-her-pick-the-vacay things… and we ended up in Sevierville TN. I took pictures of other park guests as opposed to any of the attractions if that gives you a good idea of what goes on there (let’s just say obesity and lanced boils are alive and well and apparently, vacationing at DollyWood).

But Dolly rocks the casbah. LOVE her. She is who she is- big boobs, wig, whatever! And that is just awesome.

p.s. Uh, I actually saw the Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton ‘Islands in the Stream’ concert. For real. Again, with my mother. Who maybe I need to avoid.

i read that dolly was asked once in an interview if she got upset when people called her a dumb blonde. she said no, because i know i’m not dumb, and i also know i’m not a blonde. priceless!!!!! ya gotta love this woman!!

  5. doofus

thanks annie, I had forgotten that (priceless!) one.

and to girly girl, you are HILARIOUS! mothers make us do things we’d not normally do! it’s the guilt-factor, I think. I guess I lucked out…the only concert I ever went to with my mother was Live Aid.

The four words I hope we’re saying come Monday morning: ” Oscar winner Dolly Parton”.

  7. I heart Dolly

She’s very upfront about her plastic surgery, too. She says, “Honey, if it’s saggin, baggin, or draggin, I’m gonna have it nipped, tucked, or sucked!”

    Can’t help but love her!

  8. Girly Girl

    Thanks doofus.

I also sat thru Donny and Marie, a ‘very special night’ with Pat and Debbi “You Light Up My Life” Boone, and The Association.

I’m not proud, doofus. But I love my mom!

(I can sing Dolly’s ‘Hard Candy Christmas’, I’ve seen the purple socks in person, and I know for a fact that Pat Boone’s 15 minutes were up about 40 years ago… pretty much thanks to my mother, nothing is too crappy for me to sit through so long as there are adult beverages available for purchase)

I gotta agree. Dolly seems to be like the genuine article… despite the fact that so much on her body isn’t genuine! :) Yeah for her for sticking up for the GLBT community.
