“Dreamgirls” Wins Big at the BET Awards

June 27th, 2007 // 3 Comments

Even though Beyonce may have lost out at this year’s Oscars, she racked up two wins at last night’s BET Awards. Both she and her “Dreamgirls” co-star, Jennifer Hudson, earned themselves multiple wins on stage. B went home with the awards for video of the year, as well as best female R&B artist, and JHud walked away with the awards of best female actress and best new artist. Oscar-winning actor, Forest Whitaker, received kudos for his performance in “The Last King of Scotland” in the form of a win for best male actor.

A rousing rendition of “And I Am Telling You” by both Effie Whites, Jennifer Holliday and Jennifer Hudson, marked one of the awards show’s many performances. Additionally, Diana Ross received a lifetime achievement award and emotional tributes were paid to R&B singer, Gerald Levert, as well as James Brown. Most notably, however, was rapper T.I.’s acceptance speech that he made on stage, after receiving his award for Best Hip-Hop Artist. He offered an apology for this weekend’s fisticuffs at a power brunch in Los Angeles.

The Bet awards wasn’t all that good. The only thing I like about the show was the tribute performance for Diana Ross and the late Gerald Levert. I almost forgot the two Jennfers performancing was really nice. The rest of the show they could have kept. From Monique’s being the host to some of the outfit these females stars were wearing and what the hell happen with 50 cent. I think he was ether drunk or just had a big-headed. And congrat Ciara b/c we again know she can shaky her ass. This is my opinion and I just didn’t really care for the BET awards this year.
