Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge was first spotted wearing blang-blang sapphire drop earrings to match her engagement ring June 12th at Prince Philip‘s 90th birthday service. The earrings, once belonging to Diana, Princess Of Wales, were refashioned for the Duchess. Diana had a few different pairs of sapphire-and-diamond earrings, one of which was a wedding gift from the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia. Catherine also wore the earrings at Wimbledon June 27th and during various stops on her Canadian tour with Prince William, Duke of Cambridge.
In addition to attending Zara Phillips‘ wedding July 30th, the Duke and Duchess plan to spend a long weekend at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, the family estate where the couple used to stay while they were at university. Catherine never stayed at the main castle; instead, she and Wills shacked up at a cottage on the grounds called Tam-na-Ghar. This marks the first time Catherine will join the retreat as a royal, and Majesty magazine told The Telegraph that this particular vacation holds great significance.
“This is quite an important visit for Kate because, believe it or not, The Queen does not really know her very well at all,” Majesty‘s editor-in-chief Ingrid Seward explained. “Kate has never had an invitation before to stay at Balmoral – but she is family now and The Queen wants to get to know her.It is an important visit in many ways – not least because The Queen will want Kate to meet all the staff – one day she will be responsible for them. There will be a three-line whip on to introduce her to everyone. The Queen needs to present Kate to Scotland. The time has come.”
A family vacation at Balmoral includes picnics, movie nights, and cookouts where Prince Philip insists on cooking the steaks and sausages himself. Ahhh a privileged life, indeed. We found adorable footage from a 1985 royal shoot with Prince William and Prince Harry. Check it out below.
