Ellen Pompeo looks happy as a clam (albeit a very malnourished clam), in her simple t-shirt, sweats and what appear to be the sunglasses preferred by my grandmother in Florida. But it’s not just the sun and the surf that has the “Grey’s Anatomy” star beaming–she just got hitched to her fiance of about a year, Chris Ivery, in a small ceremony at City Hall in New York. Mayor Michael Bloomberg acted as a witness during the event, while First Deputy Mayor Patti Harris was also present, Bloomberg’s spokesman, Stu Loeser, told Us Weekly:
“The Mayor was in midtown for his weekly radio show, and he came back [downtown] for a series of meetings at City Hall, and this was one of the things he had planned.”
I totally understand not wanting to make a big deal and eschewing a notoriously over-the-top celebrity wedding, but I have this sneaking suspicion that Ellen was just trying to avoid having to be pressured into eating a slice of cake.

Not a big fan of Pompeo on Grey’s, but I salute any celebrity who has the common sense not to turn their wedding into a public spectacle.
