Women’s Wear Daily has posted a blog that calls into question the fashion icon status of Angelina Jolie, saying that her clothing choices are too safe or too mundane to be considered inspirational for other women to want to emulate her in their own wardrobe.
And for a fashion industry that is plagued with celebrity, that’s somewhat annoying I’m sure. It cites Angelina’s everyday wear as typical of most moms and that there’s nothing new about t-shirt and jeans for any of us. But it’s her role as ‘Angelina Jolie’ on the red carpet or doing interviews that the editor takes issue with.
Instead of people looking at Angelina as a personal fashion muse, they look at her as an equal in some ways. And that the brilliance and beauty of Angelina is just that – all hers and is not enhanced by the clothes she wears – for better or worse, I don’t know.
The post goes on to talk about how there are very little fashion-forward women in today’s world who truly bring couture to daily wear, citing that ends of the spectrum are exemplified in people like Lady Gaga with her outrageous costume-wear and then those like Snooki who will probably rock a tube-top dress for eons.
Personally, Angelina seems to have great poise and comes off as very elegant, but I do see their point. She’s young enough and hot enough to be able to turn up the volume on her duds and get away with it.
Check her out at the Salt press conference in South Korea!
