Since it’s debut the Hollywood Vanity Fair cover has been attacked for it’s lack of color. While Oscar nominated Gabourey Sidibe was featured in the magazine, she wasn’t a cover girl. Here she is at Monday’s Oscar Luncheon where Access Hollywood asked her about the issue.
“I come from a world where I’m not on covers and I’m not in magazines at all,” Sidibe said. “And so I was happy to be in the magazine.” Sounds a lot like the happy just be nominated speech.
“At first I thought, ‘Hmm, should I be there?” she continued. “Then I very quickly got over it. I think if I were a part of that shoot I would have felt a little left out anyway.”
I think that’s the saddest thing I’ve ever heard…Sidibe goes on to insist she’s in a place where she’s is happy with who she is and how she looks.
I looked to see if Gabourey had been on any covers and she was on the cover of V magazine…shared with Dakota Fanning… for it’s size issue. Anyone know of others?

I love to see big women on the screen! It goes to show “WEIGHT IS NOT EVERYTHING” Hollywood has made too many wonem afraid to be themselves! I wonder how many beautiful woman have taken thir lives because they were told their too fat!
While I think she is very talented and was glad to see her in the magazine, all of the girls on the cover have been actresses for much longer. They have more established careers and have done more than just one movie. We have to remember that Gabourey has only ever acted the one time. She did amazing – but the other girls have done much more work. I do not feel she was snubbed due to her color; rather, she was not chosen because of her lack of work history.
If I wanted a giant fat blob on the covers of magazines I read I’d subscribe to Lazy Pig Magazine. Gabourey should dry her tears and ask herself why she looks the way she does, how long a life she’s expecting to live and how many people from her “community” read Vanity Fair before she pulls the race card.
You idiot “**** ” it has nothing to do with race, it has to do with size. Who care what her weight it, its not on your body, you aren’t going to die young, you aren’t going to have heart disease… let people live how they want. We are overpopulated anyways. We could stand to loose a few here and there.. i nominate you since clearly your analytical skills are about as high as my dogs.
I just watched one of those “best dressed” Academy Awards shows and Gabourey Sidibe
was one of the folks on the red carpet. Kate Winslet’s problem with weight control is discussed, but when this girl comes out everyone says how “precious” she looks. She needs bariatric surgery and needs to lose about 150 lb. She’s only 26 but slowly dying from a host of weight related ailments right in front of our eyes and they were too politically correct to say “she’s just too fat to look good no matter what she wears”. She should use some of that money she got from the movie to find a good surgeon. IMO
