Gerard Butler, who was recently awarded the ‘Actor of the Year’ award in Ischia, is rumored to be the new face of character ‘Jack Colton’ in a remake of ‘Romancing The Stone’. The role was originally played by Michael Douglas. The costar to play the quirky, ditzy, loveless writer ‘Joan Wilder’, is rumored to be Katherine Heigl. Seems like a stretch for both of them in terms of their usual repertoire. Oh wait, its exactly the characters they always play. As it turns out, not everyone is on board with this remake.
“The original Romancing the Stone is a fun, frisky mix of adventure and romance, a film that would never make anyone’s top film list, but a solid entry into its genre. Douglas and Turner had sizzling chemistry in the film, a chemistry that I’ve never seen Heigl even come close to in any of her films, no matter her leading man,” said a source from The Playlist.

Seen here, Gerard Butler takes a surf lesson outside his home in Malibu, California on August 26th. The actor is currently preparing for a role in ‘Mavericks’, a new movie about surfers riding big waves in Northern California. I’m seriously loving Gerard’s longer hair and more toned, slimmed body rather than his usual bulky muscly appearance. I think he would make a great ‘Jack Colton’. Don’t get me wrong, Heigl and Butler have decent chemistry but I think someone with a little more depth and wit may be needed to pull off the ‘Joan Wilder’ character. Perhaps Cameron Diaz or Kate Hudson?
