I don’t know why Gwyneth Paltrow is surprised she suffered postpartum depression when she had her son Moses. Moses has a hard time NOT parting anything! (Insert rimshot).
Now that I got my shitty Jay Leno-esque joke out of the way, I do think it’s very admirable that both Gwyneth and Bryce Dallas Howard both have admitted to having suffered postpartum with the birth of their children.
Paltrow, who talked about her experience on her website said that the period following the birth of her second child, Moses, was one of the “darkest and most painfully debilitating chapters” of her life. It came as a surprise, she added, because when her first child was born she experienced a period of incredible euphoria.
Howard told People Magazine, “In those moments after giving birth, I felt nothing.”
“I definitely felt I was a rotten mother — not a bad one, a rotten one,” she said. “Because the truth was, every time I looked at my son, I wanted to disappear.”
Howard said that she called her son “it” instead of by its name, and that she couldn’t stand to breast feed him because of the pain.
