The tragic loss of Heath Ledger has struck a chord with fans, bloggers, and the general public, causing a media uproar so that it’s hard to see where the line between exploitation and information exists–if there is one. With a mob of fans, photographers and videographers posted outside the actor’s home it seems that every detail of his passing has been chronicled, down to the video shot of the removal of his body from his apartment building in Soho.
Dwarfing any other news stories of the day, mainstream media outlets, as well as entertainment news agencies and websites–this blog included–rushed to cover the story, maintaining updates as soon as they were available. Even though we do consider our site to be more fun and sarcastic, rather than journalistic, we do hope that our coverage of this sad event has been tasteful yet informative, because we know that many of our readers are ardent fans of Heath’s.
Yesterday, our site was so inundated with hits that for an hour, we were unable to access our system to add blog posts. We think it was only fitting that at a time when many were shocked to learn of the horrible news, we were forced to sit still.
Goodbye, Heath.

Lisa, that was touching and heartfelt.
It makes me sick to my stomach to look at Britney Spears shirking her parental duties, even more so with Heaths passing. Here she is alive with two gorgeous boys, meanwhile Matilda will never get to know her father.
She makes me fuckingsick.
In a perfect world noone would buy her pathetic, attention grabbing pap shots and she’d be forced to grow the fuck up.
RIP Heath, from one Aussie kid to another.
xx

I was in my car when I heard the news over the radio. I wasn’t a huge fan, but I was pulled up short by this, and immediately thought of his daughter. It’s awful.
It is sad when anyone of Heath’s age dies and he appears to have had a talent which was about to be explored further. I also immediately thought of how his daughter will never know her father. and felt that his ex will have strong feelings for him, even thought they were separated. We all know that estrangement doesn’t mean we don’t care?
Lisa,
You guys are always classy and respectful. That’s why I love you and J.
You have covered Heath’s tragic end as I would expect you too.
Thanks for being a GOOD gossip site.
GG
Thanks, Lisa and team. You are much appreciated.
This is my favorite site, and I think you guys did a very nice job of posting the information, respectfully, when it arose.
Rest in peace, sweet man.
I to was shocked and dismayed to hear of Heath’s passing. He was a very talented actor with a long career ahead of him. I’ve been guilty of drinking a few glasses of wine and popping a pain pill or sleeping pill…never again…
Further kudos for handling sensitive subject matter with care. In my opinion, ASL sets the standard for sites of this nature. Thanks & continued success!
“You guys are always classy and respectful”
HUH ???
I’ll admit they have been so regarding this situation but they will soon be back to their jealous hateful rants against the people they wish they were.
That was lovely and original, and so true. That is exactly how I felt Heath’s passage. I didn’t know him beyond his movies and celebublogs – but his passing touched me as a known friend would have. My heart to his loved ones.

………………….GOODBYE!!!!
From another aussie (in Canada)…..
Heath Ledger’s death has made an unexpectedly large impact, which I believe is commensurate with his talent as an actor and his youth. The sadness of his daughter’s situation makes it even more heart-aching.
Whilst ASL can be snide, sarcastic, and downright bitchy (that’s actually a compliment) where needed, and where it is deserved, when tact and sympathy are required, you aced it. Thank you for not sinking to the types of lurid quasi-headlines some of the other celebloggers have used to gather attention.
A devoted fan.
In a way, and with all due respect and sadness about Heath Ledger’s death, he and Britney abandoned their kids in similar ways and from, I think, a similar amount of emotional pain and chaos. Maybe it’s just that I’ve only recently started paying attention to celebrity news, but it’s a little intense how much of that has been showing up lately. And sad for everyone concerned.
This kind of handling of Heath’s death really does set the standard. Far from CNN’s photo of the body bag you maintained a respectful and classy approach. It is so great that you guys know when to draw the line with your coverage. From what I saw, Heath was a pretty private, quirky guy and I think he would have appreciated the restraint. Lovely work.
ya’ll can be a little extra at times – snarky even – but when it comes to issues like this, you always handle them respectfully and with concern for those who really care about whoever has passed.
let’s see how you do when some of the less “huggable” celebs start losing their grip & their lives.

I think you guys did a fabulous job. You didn’t speculate, you just stated the facts. I appreciated that. I hate when people try and explain what happened when they don’t KNOW what happened. Thanks for that. :)
Lisa, you guys are great, and always respectful when you need to be. Thanks for the great site.
Rest in Peace, Heath <3
Do we have to sit and compare Britney’s life to Health Ledger’s life? Do we have to wish one were still alive and the other dead? Honestly, what does Britney have to do with Heath? NOTHING!
Quit sensationalizing one man’s death and one woman’s life, and have some compassion for both.
Thanks Lisa.
Oh, and Lisa, you guys are always pretty respectful with these things. it’s appreciated.
I’m so sad ….i loved him in A Knight Tale….to see his last photos with him alive whyfame.com
That was very thoughtful Lisa. I think you guys covered it well- and I appreciate the lack of photos of the body bag and a sobbing Michelle and a confused looking Matilda.
Heath- you’re already missed… and although the majority of us didn’t know you personally, we miss you as if we did.
i think i feel some foreign web substance around my eyes, lisa. gosh… that was an impeccably written tribute to Heath that i wouldn’t be ashamed or embarrassed to have his daughter read. wonder if some of the other sites and rags could say the same? asl remains my favorite place to come for snarky goodness because all of you have not only a heart, but really, really sharp brains to go with it.
Heath was ‘one of the good guys’; it always seemed as though he was one of us, that he could be your brother/cousin/schoolmate. And I think that’s why people are so deeply saddened by his death. My thoughts and prayers are with his parents, daughter and family.
ASL, you’ve done a great job in covering Heath Ledgers untimely passing. I believe so many people are shocked by his death because he had so much talent and who really knows where that talent would have gone. Also, he seemed like such a nice guy which I think is a rare find in Hollywood.
I just hope that there can be some compassion during this time for his friends and family especially from the paparazzi.
