When Winona Ryder excitedly told press that a sequel to Heathers was in the works, fans of the iconic 80s dark comedy were given hope. However, director Michael Lehmann recently set the record straight in an interview with Movieline.com.

The director categorically denied any plans to move forward with a follow-up film. “A couple weeks ago everyone started talking about it and I guess Winona said the movie was gonna get made, and I thought, ‘I don’t know, maybe they did this without me?’ But I got in touch with Dan Waters and he said he didn’t know anything about it. So I don’t think there’s any truth to it.”

Meanwhile, it doesn’t look like Winona’s taking this news too well, swatting at the surrounding paparazzi here. Can you blame her? Her Star Trek gig was fun, but short-lived. She better hope Spock does a lot of reminiscing in future installments.
