I love Seal. I’ve always loved his voice. Been waiting for his song “Crazy” to end up on the soundtrack for a movie on the big screen. That song moves me, as well as many others he sings. Heidi knows a good man when she sees him. They are the lucky ones.

Yeppers, Seal is most certainly 1,000 times more of a man than the father of Heidi’s first child. The Flav (Flavio Briatore) is constantly described as an ex-race car driver when the fact of the matter is the man is not and never has been a racer.

What he was was a lackey for the Benetton clothing “empire” and when Luciano decided to use Formula One racing as a vehicle to promote his sweaters, he put Flav in charge of running the team, paying him very handsomely in the process. While the Benetton Team *did* when two F-1 championships, this is attributable to the driving skills of Michael Schumacher and not the management skills of Briatore. Correct me if I am wrong, but has Benetton even one a single race since Scummi (sic) left for Ferrari?

Anyway, Flavio is an ugly, overweight, chain-smoking Italian playboy who collects world class fashion models like a seven-year-old collects baseball cards. In addition to Heidi, who I always thought was one of the nicest and classiest of the superstar models so I’ve never been able to understand how she ended up with a scuzz-bag like Flav, Naomi Campbell was also one of his discards. I could be wrong, but I believe that Flavio actually dumped Heidi BECAUSE he knocked her up! How fortunate she and Leni (her daughter) are that Seal was there to step in to the void, to the point of supporting Heidi while she was carrying another man’s child. In my experience, there aren’t many males who are manly enough to step up to the plate like that – especially in high profile relationships (as opposed to us ordinary, unfamous schmucks!) – and accept another man’s child as his own.

I wish Heidi and Seal many more years of wedded bliss with their lovely children.

I always wondered what it was exactly that Flav did and now I see absolutely nothing. I’ll agree with you regarding collecting the models as well as unceremoniously dumping them too. His track record ain’t pretty and he’s a total loser.

I’ve never heard Seal sing, and never thought Heidi was the most beautiful of all the supermodels. But what these two people *do* do well is love each other, and their children. And there’s nothing as beautiful as that.

I’ll tell you, though: I think Seal is one of the REAL man in entertainment. You can see he adores Leni, and has always considered her his daughter, and he gives every appearance of adoring his wife and both of their children.

I really think they are the couple that is going to celebrate the rare 50 year anniversary.

Biracial kids are not automatically screwed up because they are of mixed race. Everything comes down to good parenting and the family structure. If there is real love between the couple and they know how to be good parents, the kids are going to excel no matter what race they are.

I know some interracial couples who took the time to plan out everything. They know how the world is. They prepared for their children by moving to areas with more interracial families, so their kids wouldn’t feel alone. They got their children involved in the community, and they feel like they belong to it. They participated in their children’s education and got to know their teachers. They stood firm when faced with discrimination and told their children they have as much right as anyone to succeed. Their kids are fine individuals and are on that road to success.

How many people are in prison who have parents of the same race?

what does race matter if the couple is in love? it’s just a skin color. why does someone’s skin color matter more than say, their EYE color? or their HAIR color? if the couple has similar values, goals, etc…it doesn’t matter what color their skin is.

if you want to marry someone of a different race, it doesn’t mean you’re “confused”. it means you are open-minded enough to see beyond skin color to what is inside them.

we know that there are black men who don’t “chase young white chicks”… Will Smith found happiness with a black woman. And Tiger Woods found happines with a white woman. And Robert DeNiro found happiness with a black woman…there are plenty of happy, well adjusted interracial couples out there, famous and not.

and to Rumor, well said. what the parents teach the kids (about their race and other races) is paramount to how they view themselves and others. no one is born a racist. it is a learned attitude.

Of course there are exceptions to every rule. I’m sure there are just as many mixed breed kids who commit suicide each year due to the ridicule they recieve but these kids aren’t on TV so your sense of reality is skewed by the media. Like I said, I see it happening. My kids tell me about it. It’s not pretty.

It’s the children that suffer in these relationships. Racism will never die. It’s a fact of life. I’ve dealt with it all my life. Most interacial children have far more issues than pure blacks do. Children can be extrremely mean to each other and there’s absolutely nothing you can do as a parent to prevent that.

I won’t say that biracial children don’t have any issues, but a lot of times it’s because the parents were unaware and didn’t make the right choices. A lot of couples think about what makes THEM comfortable and think their kids will just automatically cope. It does not happen like that.

For instance, an interracial couple probably would not want to move to a small southern town that is 99% white and known for having a lot of racist people. We know the husband and wife are going to have problems in a place like that, so the children will have a terrible time too.

The same couple could move to an all-black neighborhood and their children will be picked on just as much. Yet, there are interracial couples who put themselves into situations like this every single day and their kids suffer, especially in school. That’s why people like Halle Berry and Mariah Carey say they never felt they fit in anywhere–with whites or blacks.

That’s why my friends checked out communities where they knew there was a higher percentage of interracial couples. The children need to feel accepted and be surrounded by a lot of love and validation, not negativity. That is VERY important.

People need to be honest with themselves. Nobody wants to be the only one, I don’t care who you are. White people expect to look around and see other white faces. Black people don’t feel comfortable living in places where there aren’t enough blacks. Asians and Hispanics do the same thing. Biracial children need to see other people like them, not one or two.

If you don’t want to date outside your race that’s okay. The problem comes when people with negative views flock together, which tends to happen. Once they are together, they tend to develop the “us against them” mentality. Our way is best, we’re right, they’re wrong. Then all they want to do is stay in their own little group, which I personally don’t believe in. If people all get into separate groups and the groups don’t communicate, guess what? We will never get to know one another, so there is no tolerance and society does not flourish that way.

I have a dear friend, an older black lady. I love her to death. One of her beautiful daughters is married to a white man who, as far as I am concerned, is in the same handsome category as Brad Pitt. He is a total hunk, but also a good man with good values. They are pretty well off financially. They have several homes and take exotic vacations. They do not have children, but they have each other, and they are happy because it’s real love. They take care of each other and have been married at least 22 or 23 years now. They’ll grow old and gray together. It’s simply a great match, and they are not alone.

To find TRUE love is absolutely a special and wonderful thing. There are interracial couples who are not superficial. They are truly in love, something few of us ever find.

Higher percentages of interatial couples? Give me a break. I don’t know where you live but I’ve never lived anywhere or known anyone else who lived on a block with more than one interacial couple. I’m sure there are a few out there but they are far and few between.

Flip, I respect your opinion and I am honestly not trying to argue with you, but I have to disagree. For example, I was in San Diego, California maybe 10 to 15 years ago with a friend. I don’t even remember exactly where we were, but there were A LOT of interracial couples everywhere, mostly black men with white and Hispanic women.

I’m not saying you’re going to enter a neighborhood and see a lot of interracial couples living on the same block. But there are areas (communities) where interracial coupling is more prevalent, just like how San Francisco is gay friendly. Chances are your kids can go to school and see more than a few biracial kids just like them.

Church can also be a major part of kids’ lives. It can be like a second family where they receive a lot of love and a feeling of belonging. In the end, that is what is important. Too many times biracial children feel different or are rejected by their own relatives and that’s where a lot of their problems begin.

We are all college educated, employed, and own our homes. My Dad was military and there are tons of interracial couples in the military. In fact, the town that we spent our formative years in has a population of nearly 1/4 biracial/multiracial people. We have an Indian reservation nearby whose Chief has skin as black as Seal’s. He is Black, White, and Indian. The only issues that I have had with race my whole life (I am 42 years old)were initiated by those stupid and silly “what about the children?”, “zebra kids”, “breed with their own kind” people like Flip(as though human beings are livestock or purebred dogs. There is no such thing as a pure race or bloodline. Even if the conquests had not occured the mitochondrial DNA research of Dr. Rebecca Cann of the University of Hawaii links all Homo sapiens back to Africa. As for his looks, he is that shade of Black that is like polished Ebony. Scars can be beautiful when they represent overcoming an insurmountable obstacle like a life-threatening disease, or beating the odds and living through a near fatal accident. I have a few scars from an auto accident that left me comatose for a month. Although, none of my scars are disfiguring, I wouldn’t trade my scars or change what happened if they were. The scars are a map of my journey, part of what created me and made me the person that I am today, older, a little scarred, but 10,000 times better than I ever was. Heidi is very wise to recognize the beauty in Seal, something beyond the superficial. Its wonderful to learn that someone as physically beautiful as she is has more substance of character than most and is not shallow and empty. Hey Shirley! I will tell you exactly what Seal, stepping up and fathering Heidi’s White child says about him as a Black man. The fact that Flavio, a White man abandoned his child, and Seal, a Black man stepped in and is nurturing her, turns the racial stereotypes about fathers on its head. It says that the stereotype of the Black man who abandons children like a jungle animal is untrue. It says that there are some Black men who look at children, all children, no matter their color as a gift, worthy of praise. Your statement identifying Seal with Mr. Bojangles, a butler, and the step and fetch routine says nothing about Seal himself, but reveals your own negative perceptions of Black men. Check yourself, Girl. By the way, as a little multiracial girl watching Shirley Temple films, I always loved Bill “Bojangles” Robinson like a grandfatherly figure who steps into the father role (which I am sure was the screen writers intention since curly top was always without her father in these films). I always wished he were my friend and thought curly top was lucky to have him. Plus, he was distinguished and classy.
