What goes around, comes around. And for Howard K. Stern, it comes down hard, complete with a jail sentence. The late Anna Nicole Smith‘s lawyer/boyfriend/errand boy was convicted of conspiring to aid Smith’s prescription drug problem that led to her death back in 2007.
Let’s tally up the charges for Stern:
- One count: “Conspiring to prescribe prescription drugs using fraudulent means.”
- One count: “Conspiring to furnish prescription drugs to an addict.”
Stern was acquitted of seven other charges which included “unlawfully prescribing a controlled substance and obtaining a prescription for an opiate using false information”
Isn’t this guy supposed to be a lawyer? Shouldn’t he have known how to trick the legal system because he, um, studied and practiced it? Am I giving Stern too much credit? Does love just make us do crazy things?
Joining Stern in the clinker is one of Smith’s doctors, Khristine Eroshevich. Bitch was convicted on four charges (the same two Stern was convicted of) and “two counts of obtaining a prescription for opiates using a false name.”
Another doctor, Sandeep Kapoor, managed to walk away and was cleared of all counts (but is still a deadbeat).
Both Stern and Eroshevich will face at least three years in prison. They are scheduled to be sentenced on January 6th of the new year. 2011 does NOT look good for both the lawyer and the doctor.
