People have been speculating as to whether Taylor Lautner will play the younger version of Wolverine in director Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class, which explores the younger years of some of our favorite mutants. But apparently, Lautner isn’t a go for the role.
MTV caught up with Hugh Jackman to see what his thoughts were on the possibility of the young werewolf switching into Wolverine mode.
“My only question is can he grow mutton chops?” Jackman said. Hugh assumes that Twilight fans will not want the hairless chest of Jacob Black to be as super hairy as Wolverine and he may just be correct.
“Actually, I think people would probably prefer him as a hairless
Wolverine than a rather hairy-chested version,” Jackman said
laughing, “Certainly about a billion young girls would.”

When Hugh was asked about the possibility of his appearance in the upcoming film The Avengers he replied, “I haven’t gotten any phone calls yet. But you never
know. He could [appear] but you never know if someone else could have
been called to play Wolverine.”
Sources say a replacement for Jackman would be highly unlikely. Its also doubtful Wolverine will appear in the film as X-Men rights are held by 20th Century Fox whereas The Avengers is distributed by Paramount. Not
that I’m against Taylor Lautner, but honestly how
can you compete with a guy this freaking cool?
