Idol Gives Back – Good Day For Charity, Bad Day For Tim Urban

Idol Gives Back went down last night in a big way. Presidential big. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama asked America to contribute and thanked American Idol for their good example in a pre-taped message which ended in Michelle asking Simon Cowell to “be nice.”

Other taped and live appearances included Jennifer Garner, Victoria Beckham, Morgan Freeman, Ben Affleck and Sully Sullenberger. Performances included “I put a Spell on You” from a sleek and gussied up Joss Stone, a lackluster “Rock That Body” from Black Eyed Peas (Fergie had said on Monday they didn’t know what they were doing yet), Alicia Keys doing a medley of “Unthinkable” and “Empire State of Mind (Part II)”, and Elton John ending things with “Your Song.” Carrie Undwerwood who went from American Idol to making history at the ACM Awards recently performed “Change.” Carrie walked the red carpet in a gorgeous strapless dress while David Arquette and Common showed their unique styles.

Check out the other styles on the red carpet in the gallery and see some of the performances after the jump.

About two hours into the show they already raised more than $15 million for charity. Yay for charity! No charity for Time Urban though who was sent home at the end of the night.
