Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have secretly asked American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee to sing at their upcoming wedding. Why secretly? Because if the public found out that they asked an American Idol singer to sing at the couple’s wedding, it would be embarrassing. We haven’t been able to confirm the rumor that Tom’s first choice, Clay Aiken, turned down the opportunity to sing for the couple.
Katie Holmes reportedly met McPhee at Los Angeles’ Church of Scientology, where the singer allegedly attended courses with her boyfriend, and has since become a huge fan of the pretty brunette.
And, after McPhee lost out to Taylor Hicks in the Idol finale last week, the celebrity couple got in touch with the California girl and asked her to perform at their wedding ceremony.
A source close to the couple says, “Tom and Katie have become Katharine’s biggest fans. They think she’s destined to become a singing legend.”
And Cruise’s War of the Worlds director Steven Spielberg is also a big McPhee fan–he has set up a meeting with the Idol star to discuss a possible future in films.

Check the transcripts of McPhee on Larry King last week. She addressed the Scientology rumors by confirming she once dated a Scientologist and did in fact attend some classes. She theorizes that the Church leaked her name out. Larry King asked her if she had been asked to sing at their wedding and McPhee sidestepped answering by saying something like “no one has contacted Idol managment”. She did mention that Spielberg wanted a meeting.
She seems really conceited. I mean shes pretty but she also large and in charge. There is something very arrogant about her..bleh

Hey, Katharine herself on Access Hollywood said she didn’t know if any of these rumors (and I say rumors because that’s all they are) were true. No one has called Katharine or her people.
Trust me I know. It is all hype. Then tabs make it real by stretching the truth and the story further. In other words, they have nothing else to talk about her so they make up stuff!
