Is Jojo All Grown Up?

October 17th, 2006 // 3 Comments

It’s hard to believe that it has been three years since pop sensation Jojo was in the studio recording. It was her 2004 hit single “Leave (Get Out)” that made her a household name with pre-teens and teenagers. Now she is back with a new album and her latest single “Too Little Too Late,” as annoying and overplayed that it might be, people seem to enjoy the pop ballad. Seems that our little Joanna, or Jojo, has grown up and shed her teeny bopper phase and developed into a bright young woman captivating a much larger and diverse audience.

With such universal appeal established, Blackground Records is hoping Jojo can revitalize the label and pick up where it’s most admired and first artist, the late Aaliyah left off. Jojo’s second album, “The High Road,” is set to be released in stores today. Fueled by 121,000 digital sales, it’s single “Too Little Too Late” made the biggest jump ever into the top three of The Billboard Hot 100 last week, catapulting all the way from 66 to number three a record previously held by Mariah Carey and her 2001 hit “Loverboy”. Then again, can we really take someone seriously that still goes by the name Jojo?
